WOW. SUPER helpful to those of us, who have never seen this done before, but are about to tackle this ourselves. Thank you a TON for making this. Charlie

Great vid. Really appreciate it. Minor point is the cotter pin was 90 degrees off from being properly seated. Long tab of the pin should fold back tight around the end of the axle.

You don't build a kit airplane for the speed of it, you build for the love of it.

Course it has to be off center to counteract the rotational torque from the single engine.

Okay, so when you say 504 hours is that “man hours” So if you and your dad spent 1 hour in the shop does it count in the 504 as 1 or 2?
@tomplaner1488 Жыл бұрын
The 500+ hours you totaled up in this video, were those individual man hours or you and your dad working together?? There is a huge difference if you are.

Excellent vid!. Not sure how you can weld on a cap after cutting off the bungee tabs without them interfering with the donuts (since it looks like the donuts slide over the welded over hole?

I've seen other plane videos where they are fixing old planes, including the brakes. Usually take the tire off, remive brake shoes, not the disc.

Pretty sure that any time you mate aluminum to another metal, that you should primer paint that area to prevent bimetalic corrosion.

If you guys bailed on the build I don't blame you. Zenith kits/drawings and instructions suck. I was building a 650 and am abandoning it due to the above.... And I was an aircraft tech for 25 years.

Great videos. I see lots of good build videos on the Cruzer and the Super Duty but I can’t find any on the standard 750 STOL. Anyone have any links to share?

FYI, your head mounted camera and constant head movements make it hard to focus and see what you are talking about.

No updates in a year - is your build on-going, completed, or what? Curious minds want to know! Even if there's been no progress on the build, or it's been abandoned and sold, etc (or hopefully, flying!), it would be helpful to others to give a dose of reality to homebuilders. FWIW, I built a Zenith 750 STOL in one year and 1000 hrs, but I did have my adult son available to help for 3 months. That was 10+ years and 760 flight hrs ago and I'm still grinning!

Jeff, how goes the build? I was one of the first 10 people that was onboard when you and your Dad first started to build this kit? Mike.

The issue is if he got it too hot. He could have ground it in many small steps dipping it into water to cool it in between grinding sessions. The same needs to be considered for the aluminum and the steal parts as they both are usually heat treated.

As with many things, time, effort and preparation outweigh the actual doing of the task. Much of the engineering of the design, configuration and selection of appropriate parts is already done. A builder’s job is to execute on the assembly which(as you are experiencing) requires many skills to be learned. If possible, enjoy the process along the way. And think about all the time you will spend flying too! Hope that helps and keep on keeping on. 👍🏻

I'm a engine builder for high performance race engines and have helped a company on a manual in the past
@mikehancho35003 жыл бұрын
Thats where they save money the time it takes to write a good manual is very costly imagine if someone building one would take the time and write a correct detailed description manual it would take three times the time to build but you could name your price .if I had the money to buy one I would and do just so then sell there manual back to them for alot more then the kit cost no one thi KS of it unless you have written or helped write instructional manuscript for mechanical purposes

I hope whether online or offline you continue with the build and complete the project. More so than ANY other Cruzer channel, your "real time" head cam videos do a great job of showing the REAL story behind airplane building. Mistakes ... yep. Parts that may not fit quite right ... yep. Unclear instructions .... uncertainty in how to do something you have never done before. Yep and Yep. But persevering and moving ahead as you do. Build On!
