While usin the ONX-630, Always use Ingress Expert, and NEVER use Average power. You will never see the accurate amount of noise on the line. Max Power and Max hold.

To everyone that"s been hating on the ONX 620/30 ingress expert mode... 1. I would bet money that if trained properly on the ONX, you'd never pick up a dsam or 1G again (well. The 1G is pretty tight too). 2. How many of you ran docsis expert first in order for the ingress expert app to lock the upstream channel descriptors?

I have also noted (recently) that the ONX-620 will often default to a noise floor of -60dBmV and doesn't adjust to where you would normally expect the noise floor to be (-40 dBmV). Often times, with a lot of noise you are greeted with a constant "excessive ingress" display and the only to get this to go away is by turning the AGC on. When you turn the AGC on, you can see the noise floor move then as it adjusts (adds attenuation). Sometimes this moves the noise floor down to levels lower than -30 dBmV. This has obvious flaws considering a 25db spike from a -60 dBmV noise floor will only be measured to -35 dBmV which means it's in a "passing" range whereas if the noise floor were accurate from the jump (around -40 dBmV) your spike would be badly failing at -15 dBmV. Not sure why this is happening. In any regard, clearing a house of ingress is so much easier with the DSAM than with the ONX. If anyone knows WHY the ONX 620/630 is defaulting to show the noise floor at -60 dBmV, I would love to hear it. (my suspicion is that the meter is being effected by the downstream channels and may require use of a low pass filter). Still....operationally I would much rather be chasing house ingress with a DSAM than an ONX at this point.

Cable TV - Total Garbage! Way past its prime! Bring on the Fiber!
@bbtechbbtech Жыл бұрын
Someone hasn't done their research....cable has been fiber to the node for over 20 years.....and is doing quite a bit or work with even further fiber penetration in a lot of markets. Coax still has a lot of life left in thanks to a lot of the newer technologies (PNM, Adaptive equalization, OFDM/D3.1, Remote Phy, High Split..and more). To call it garbage just shows how little you know.

@@bbtechbbtech -- I'm an IT person. I deal with the shortcomings of cable internet on a regular basis! The coax shared media part of the cable system is the problem. any one of your many neighbors can seriously degrade everyone on that shared segment. any trunk amplifier on that segment can cause hundreds of homes to have degraded service. and there is that fact the many if not most cable systems are poorly maintained and typical lack competent technicians to troubleshoot intermittent problems. No, they really are total garbage whose time has come and gone!

When was the last time that meter was calibrated? Also, the OneExpert might be zoomed out and therefore showing fewer details. Try adjusting your Vertical setting before you rotate the screen.

That is a SV03 plug. That is a Signal Vision 03, it is power passing and 0 down. They are way better than an I-stop IMO. Also they have SV05s that are 20 down and power blocking

You could have saved all of those steps by looking at pathtrak, dropping the tap plate then hitting the button inside the tap and then watch the noise drop on PT.
@Wav100013 жыл бұрын
Good method assuming you don’t have multiple layers of noise and have good cell coverage (to connect to PT). It’s always good to be able to know what you’re looking at on a meter.

When you are in ingress expert (which is what I prefer to use, not ingress scam), press the up arrow hard-key twice and it will zoom your trace in. Unfortunately because of the dynamic range of the meters analyzer, you must use auto AGC when you’re probing with the ONX. You have to be cognizant that if auto AGC is turned on, you have to hit reset whenever you plug in to something new or cause your noise floor to raise (eg: by loosening or tightening a seizure screw). This doesn’t happen when Auto AGC is turned off. You can turn the auto AGC off when you are using yours amps test points though (because they are 20dB, 25dB down etc). With that said, you may be able to get away with using a 20dB probe (such as an iStop) with Auto AGC off to have a better experience chasing ingress. Again, just make sure to zoom the trace in a bit because it will be harder to see the noise: A) because you’re used to the DSAM and B) because the noise will be attenuated by the probes attenuation value
