I was an apprentice and ran over the gas welder with a 5ton boom truck, I thought for sure I was going to get fired. The boss said, when he was 18 he forgot to let the water out of the tractor and cracked the block, just don’t let it happen again. I worked for him 3 years.

EDM can machine any metal. I make my own carbide inserts buying carbide flats machining holes and shaping the carbide with my EDM machine if I’m in a pinch. It is slow but is the tolerances are unbeatable. No CNC or manual milling or lathe can beat the precision of EDM machining. I love that I can machine hardened steel of any type with no issues as well and there is no burnt over heated edges or wrecking carbide tooling. I don’t what I would do without it now.

I am curious, why didn't you reverse it out? Were you afraid that if there is a cut piece stuck somewhere could damage the threads? I usually rock forward and backward 10 degrees until it starts to move again and reverse it out to remove fallen chunks inside the hole then I clean oil and repeat.

Could have protected the outside surface with wax - may have to SR to release any generated hydrogen.

All these million dollar machines and they still flip parts over using a strap and two bits of wood to cushion it. 🤷‍♂️

i notice some markings on the machined surface where the chicks were tightened onto the work piece....ahould there be a protective material between the chuck jaw and machined work piece?...to prevent such markings?

I'm very familiar with metallurgy, what effect does it have on the stainless putting a steady arc to it with unfamiliar metals like carbon taps? In my experiences we avoid this as to not contaminate the stainless...

While you had the part in the CNC mill doing the drill and tap work , already on location, cut the tap with a carbide mill, I have done it many times. So much easier !! This is workin your ass off, and a nasty looking part to boot ! Bad procedure.
