Not being a jerk, just curious. Why do you run a hang on back filter and a canister filter? I have big predatory fish that are pretty messy. But my hang on back systems I run seem to keep it just as clear as yours with just one filter. Thanks for you knowledge and input.

Seeing how you twisted that glass lily pipe to get it off is like asking for it break and cut your hand..that’s not the way to handle glass lily pipe..never grab it or twist it by the curve (U) part because that it’s the weakest part of the lily pipe same goes to the glass inlet.

I have 4 of these guys still from my 20 gallon :) I was going to get a clown pleco maybe for the 40 gallon breeder I set up but they are killing most of the algae still.

Petco and Petsmart is bad for fish I will never buy fish there again after having the same kind of thing happen. I bought 10 Harlequins yesterday and they were super active and colorful right out of the bag about an inch long. Paid 4 bucks each from the fish store and hoping they stay healthy :) Added them to a school of 9 black neons.

Explain your plumbing please! Where are the metal pipes connected to? I also see you have a HOB filter, are you using a heater at all?
@julianaquascaped3 жыл бұрын
Hey! The metal pipes are connected to an external canister filter underneath the tank. I am not using HOB anymore because it wasn’t really necessary. And yes I do have a heater in the aquarium.

@@julianaquascaped i think it’s my light honestly, I didn’t do enough research before I bought a 30 inch tall tank.
@julianaquascaped3 жыл бұрын
@@YungRekless ah, 30 inches tall? So not enough light? Mine is actually fairly tall too with a pretty basic light, but maybe the Val variety you have requires more light? Are you dosing any fertilizers? Vallisneria grows very fast, which means it takes up a lot of nutrients. That makes them good indicator plants for the rest of the plants, because fast growers start showing signs of nutrient deficiency like yellowing first. I got them because most of my plants are slow growers and I needed a fast grower to keep the algae at bay.
@YungRekless3 жыл бұрын
@@julianaquascaped I’m having issues. My tap water is zero kh and zero gh, so I thought that was the problem so I’ve been adding equilibrium and it hasn’t helped. I dose aquarium co op easy green, seachem advanced, seachem iron. And use seachem root tabs, and nothing will grow.

Heey im searching for a stainless steel lily pipe and i was wondering if you had a problem with your shrimps and the skimmer. Do you have a feeling that some of the shrimps get in the skimmer?
@julianaquascaped4 жыл бұрын
I've definitely found shrimp (alive) in my filter since getting the skimmer. I've seen people place some filter floss or sponge in the skimmer to keep the shrimp out. I haven't tried that yet, though.

heyy 👋🏽 love your videos , do you prefer the stainless steel lily pipe over the glass ones ? and have they rusted ? its been 2 months since you've posted this video and i read that they rust in about 3 months , please do an update :)
@julianaquascaped4 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you! I have a big backlog of videos to edit and more things to record but unfortunately work has kept me too busy. I definitely prefer the stainless steel to the glass ones for one major reason: the glass ones only look nice and clean for a day or two tops after cleaning before they start getting brown/green gunk in them that looks terrible and defeats the purpose of the “blending in to the aquascape” look folks want from glass. Plus the steel ones won’t shatter all over your floor and potentially in your tank if you apply too much pressure to them. As for rust, that is something I was wary of, especially in buying the not highest end brand, but I haven’t notice any rusting on them so far!

Thank you! The glass ones definitely blend in more in the tank, but only when they're freshly cleaned. They got dirty very quickly and ended up only looking nice right after I was done cleaning. Plus, I was always afraid of breaking them until eventually one of them did break.

I’m not an expert but have you tried trimming the flame moss down too about one inch . I did it to my Christmas moss and it can back thicker and greener. Saved what I trimmed and will put it in my Quarantine tank. Just thought you might try it, nowadays everything is so expensive and it just might come back nicer .
@julianaquascaped4 жыл бұрын
I have before and it grew back really quickly. I’m actually getting rid of it (well, I’m probably keeping some in a bowl) and replacing it with some epiphytes. Little pieces of moss just end up everywhere since they sink unlike other plants so it’s hard to keep the tank clean of moss strands.

Have you tried to order fish on line? I have had great luck with Aqua Huna . Cory from Aquarium Co-Op recommended them because co-op does not ship fish. I ordered Otos ,corys and Hillstream loaches with no problems.Their packaging is perfect they take great care to make sure your fish arrive safely and if something happens ,they will certainly send you more (of course free of charge) they’re good people. Good luck 👍

Hi Diane! I've mainly shied away from ordering fish online because of the shipping cost to Montana, to be honest. But I actually have recently had a good experience ordering from someone on AquaBid (will be in a future video). Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check out Aqua Huna! I also really want to drive the 8 hours or so to Aquarium Co-Op one of these days and record the experience.
