And this is the beginning of the story of how Clapton spoke to Tom Dowd, went to see The Allman's play the next day, invited them back to the studio to jam, and "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" got cut with Duane. Man I miss those days. The music, the "way" things were, just a simpler, more beautiful time. ✌️

I don't often consider covers being as good as the original recording, but this one is by far superior to the track laid down by the fab four.

Eric has no qualms cause he knows good is just good. That’s why they could play together without their egos getting involved. RIP Skydog

Eric has no ego---he was the only in Cream who didn't. Read his autobiography, he never has a bad word to say about anyone in the music business. VERY humble guy. In fact, he considers nearly everybody better than he is

Clapton played on an Aretha Franklin number, you can see her listening to the recording and liking Eric's guitar work. Ahmet Ertegun said to her "I told you, he's the real deal"!

I don’t get it. It just sounds like the sound engineer said, just play it out...he’ll sing it out, you play what you want and we’ll fade it out when we hear something we don’t like or when we get to the 3 minute marker. There’s no construction, no build, can’t hear any exceptional technique, it’s just fills and licks. Can’t think why Eric Clapton would single this out, when he had so many others to choose from. To me it’s mystifying, unless we are listening to a different take to the one he has in his mind.

Kept waiting for "the great solo at the end". Had to listen very hard through all the horrible screaming vocal noise. Why do people think such catterwauling is great singing? It's shit. Wilson Pickett destroyed a previously beautiful song by the Beatles. Just like much of Little Richard's singing, just noisy showing off. Yuk.

Nothing really special, just tired blues riffs over and over, which is probably why Clapton loved it. Terry Kath, The Wrecking Crew's Louie Sheldon, or Lindsey Buckingham, who REALLY knew how to fit a lead guitar part within a song, could have done it better. Listen to the building crescendo of Buckingham's lead guitar in Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain."

What is Clapton talking about? Definitely NOT the "greatest rock solo ever recorded" by a long shot. It's really good but Duane Allman has many more solos that stand out more than this one. It's not on the level of "All Along The Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix for example, and I'm a huge Duane Allman fan.
