Sounds as though everything is either stable or moving in a positive direction. I'm glad to hear it. With respect to your vision, here's my abbreviated tale: lifetime severe myope (-10.5 & -12.0) with astigmatism. Also, a nearly lifelong pilot who absolutely requires 20/20 best corrected in each eye individually. Three years ago, my vision started to worsen dramatically and I was diagnosed with fast-growing cataracts. I went from 20/20 to nearly blind in the center of each eye's field of view within about three months. The solution was multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) and the result was nothing short of incredible. Having worn vision correction for over 50 years, 80% of that time with soft, toric contacts, I now have 20/15 in my right eye and 20/20 in my left eye, uncorrected. No need for readers and no anticipated degradation with age (no presbyopia). About six months after the cataract surgeries, I experienced detached retinas (evidently a risk for formerly severe myopes post-cataract surgery) in each eye about four months apart. The retina surgeries were successful and my eyes have been perfect ever since. Anyway, ask your surgeon about multifocal IOLs. 🙂 Best of luck! Ken

That's probably going to be the plan, I just hope the recovery goes quick if I do need surgery.

The bigger lines have less flex , so I start with those and then work my way down in size . I really need to get back on my 1.8T swap in my 914 .

You shouldn't install all the brake and fuel lines before you drop in the engine transmission?
@DriveDriverDriven2 ай бұрын
A smarter, less emotional man would probably have done that but I was too excited to get everything back together. The fuel line is no problem but the brake lines might be fun.

Rear hubs are loose because the half shafts are not in and tightened down with the axle nuts, no? Mine is the same way, because I haven't tightened the axle nut down yet. If you lower the engine, you won't lose the driveshaft pinion angle?
@DriveDriverDriven2 ай бұрын
You shouldn't have to rely on the axle nut to take the slack out of the bearings, they should be set correctly without the axle. Lowering the engine will probably change the angle a small amount but I can check those measurements once the drivetrain goes back in.

I have a tiny shop at the house and it is borderline over lit . I wouldn`t change it though . The shop I currently work at is 7,000 square feet and we need more light . I really want to get back to building cool things and not the average stuff .

Great video, thanks for sharing! Is that headset the Sena Tufftalk? I'm also in the Bay Area and my Caterham 7 kit is currently on a boat headed to the port of Oakland (ETA 10/13) - hopefully I'll see you on Skyline sometime next spring/summer.

When I bought my (then 50+ year old) house in Seattle many years ago, I simply had my company send my first year's paychecks directly to Home Depot 😂 Welcome to home ownership! I've probably mentioned it before, but YES YES YES on the wire shelving. And definitely opt for the caster option! They're not the strongest/best of wheels, esp if the shelves are overloaded, but it makes cleanup so much easier if you can nudge things around. Once you have it all tweaked, you're going to love the new space, and be able to get so much more done. As for a lift; there are "half height" lifts; in fact, the pillars are often even portable, but have the option of being bolted down for extra rigidity. I've worked with those. You obviously can't stand up under the car, but a good low seat with a reclining back makes it easy to zip around underneath. And it's certainly a good option for 70% of the jobs you'd want to do. Good luck with everything!

I would add a ceiling in that garage. I even made a home theater in my garage w/a 135" motorized screen. You should install jackshaft style garage door openers.

You have space for A lift with those raised ceilings. Sweet setup with lots of space. You could put in cement in front with 4” channels like a checker board for drainage with some black rocks.
@DriveDriverDriven4 ай бұрын
I was worried the ceiling might be too low or the garage door opener might be in the way, but I'd love to get a lift in there. Large blocks with channels might be the play to retain drainage. what I forgot to mention in the video is the downhill behind the shop is neighbors property.

For the new garage(s) I can't recommend highly enough doing what I did; lots more of those "wire rack" shelves (the tall ones similar to your low "cart" shelves) and *everything* you can muster, on wheels! Basically, if it's on the ground, it's on wheels! My garage came with a lot of built-ins, but all additional storage is on wheels, or bolted to the walls/hanging from something. Makes cleanup and re-org much easier. Happy days in the new digs!!

I've been in the relocation business for roughly 15 years and the best way I have found for tool box drawers is to load them with packing paper. It will hold everything in its place and you can leave the drawers in.
@JoeyWebber9555 ай бұрын
My last move was spur of the moment and the plan was just put stuff in boxes that could be carried and then trailer 3 project cars as well . I have been here for the last 20 years now , so no moves lately . Also , this was the first time I noticed all of the Rock Auto magnets on the bottom drawer of the box .

While I've moved my garage (with all of the tools and accoutrements for my airplane, motorcycle, and car work), I've fortunately not done so with an active project pending. You have my sympathies! You're on the right track with the idea of individually wrapping drawers, though nothing you're likely to do upfront will avoid the necessity of reorganizing each drawer's contents on arrival at the new house. In any case, congrats! Not to worry; you'll get through it. 🙂
