Have you always used flambient, or have you ever tried to use the in-camera, HDR-merging capabilities of say an A6000? I have been quite impressed with my 200 dollar, used, A6000 for its ability to take multiple exposures and give this picture to you in one raw or Jpeg file (or both). I was wondering if you knew how this might stack up against flambient for interiors? If nothing else, it could make for a good "spaghetti-western shootout."

nice tutorial Jonathan! to remove color casts I recommend to use a hue/saturation layer in photoshop (selecting the color you want to remove in the properties panel and desaturating it) and mask the specific area (typically the ceiling or walls, this less destructive than using Lightroom which will affect all areas of the image)

How sensitive are your Zebras? Do they indicate full-blown highlights? My a7iv has options. Not sure what % to set. 😊
@blueridgestops3128Күн бұрын
I've always used the Ansel Adams Zone system: just add or subtract 10 percent for each of the different "zones." Experiment with it: every camera is a little different. The zone that works best on one camera for a certain lighting situation may need to be tweaked on another camera with different light-collecting capacities. Full frame, lower MP cameras collect more light than APSC with higher MP count (A7S3 vs A6700), for example, so you might wish to raise or lower the zebra sensitivity for the same situation depending on the camera used.

Nice tutorial. I do something slightly different. I keep the flash shot on top and set it to the blend mode Color. With the ambient shot below, I simply move the opacity slider to whatever looks good. Typically, I have an action that does this quickly and sets the opacity to 50% for the ambient layer as a starting point. Of course, this action becomes useless when you have to flash composite large rooms, or use blend mode Light when flashing multiple rooms visible in the background.

I’ve not done a video on this yet, but I will keep it in mind. I’d shoot on S-Log 2, to make the most of the dynamic range when editing. S-log 3 is not a great idea on this camera as it’s only 8 bit colour. Make sure you’re shooting at 50 or 60 FPS so you can slow the footage and get nice smooth shots when editing. Hope that might help for now.

@jonathanshilton4 күн бұрын
I don’t use a plugin, I just manually correct the distortion in Final Cut, and then copy and paste the edit to other clips. I rarely use the wide lens due to this distortion, as by the time you have fixed it, you’re pretty much back to the standard lens width.

Great info. Quick question; I just got back into this but with the iPhone and axis... seems like each time I do an exterior 360 scan, the (return to the interior 3d) (man walking - puck) is no place near the house I am scanning... its across the street or on another house... I think I have started my 360 scan with my camera pointing at the house or away from the house but it seems it's never correct. Thx
@jonathanshiltonАй бұрын
I too sometimes have this issue. You can change the direction the exterior faces once you have placed it on the plan. It’s a circle with arrows pointing both directions I think. Sometimes it doesn’t show up how you have changed it in you edit, but I’ve found when you open the live tour up it is facing the correct direction. I think it’s a bit of a bug in the software. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

@jonathanshiltonАй бұрын
If you go on the Matterport site it has a list of compatible 360 cameras. I’ve linked it here. Looks like it’s up to the Insta 360 X2, so your pro is unfortunately not compatible. They do update regularly, so I’m sure you’ll be able to use it soon. matterport.com/cameras/360-cameras Thanks for watching.

They actually have support for the Insta360 X3, but very annoyingly STILL don’t have support for the X4. I had to return my X4 because I expected after multiple months of release they’d have released the firmware now but unfortunately not for the X4. They’ve been saying they’d update since the camera came out but still have never fixed it so your best bet is the X3

How accurate are the floor plan measurements?
@jonathanshiltonАй бұрын
I’ve never produced a floor plan using Matterport as I draw them manually, so I couldn’t comment on the accuracy. I imagine they would be pretty good. I guess there’s no way of telling until you compare it to one you’ve drawn yourself with the dimensions. Sorry that’s not much help. My main jobs include photos and floor plans. I only shoot a few of these each month, that’s why I draw my floor plans. I might do a video soon on how I produce floor plans soon. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@samanshp yes, I use a Leica Disto laser measure and sketch the plans on squared paper. I then send the sketch’s off to be drawn up by a company in India who send it back to me the next morning. Costs around $3-5 per plan up to about 1500 sq ft.

How profitable ist this once I purchase an Insta360 camera ?
@jonathanshiltonАй бұрын
All comes down to how much you charging and how busy you are. The Insta 360 X3 cost about $400 plus the the cost of the Matterport subscription. Up to 150 scans costs about $115 p/m I think. You’d start making a profit after shooting just 3 or 4 job’s depending on your pricing structure.

Generally yes. I’d say about 80% of the shots I take are just two shots. Obviously times when it’s really bright outside and you might need to take a 3rd window exposure shot. Here in the UK it’s often quite dull, so I can shoot like this. Might be different where you are if there’s a lot of bright sunshine. what is the difference between this one and the matterport pro 2?
@jonathanshiltonАй бұрын
The Pro 2 will give you a better quality image. It just comes at twice the price of the Ricoh Theta Z1 and is also a lot bigger and heavier to carry around. It’s fine if you’re only doing virtual tours, but if your shooting photos too, it becomes a bit bulky to carry around. The Pro 2 is a great bit of kit though, so I’m not saying don’t get it. Just a couple of things to consider. Thanks for watching!

Is there a reason why you dont use the insta x4 for video? why the Osmo?
@jonathanshilton2 ай бұрын
I don't own the insta x4, so that's the main reason I have never used it. My only 360 camera I own is the Ricoh Theta Z1. I don't like to shoot videos with this for my interior work or KZbin videos, as you have to convert 360 video files in to a usuable format. I think this is easier with the insta app and editing software. The Osmo pocket 3 is just a great camera for convenience and shoots great qulaity video for it's size, that's why I use it for some of my KZbin videos and also shooting some sections of real estate videos with agents.

Great video👍 Thank you very much. I would like to know, what happens if a client chooses the lower end package when the house requires the higher value one?
@jonathanshilton2 ай бұрын
That’s a good question, something I should have covered in the video. I do have a client that only ever orders the standard package what ever the property. In the case that it’s nice and might warrant the extra photos. I take some extras on site but I still only edit 15 and keep the others in a separate folder in case they ask, but they are usually happy with what I’ve sent. You could also send them a contact sheet of all of them unedited and they can choose the 15 they want to be edited. Only problem with this is that it can slow the process of getting the photos to them, which most of my clients want turned around in 24 hours.
@Garciarage2 ай бұрын
@@jonathanshilton Thank you very much, that helps a lot. I was thinking of creating per-square footage packages for properties, like 0-2000 and taking all the photos I think the property needs with a minimum of 15. Of course, I'll have a maximum amount I'd keep to myself. What do you think of that idea? One more question... You said you only have 2 packages, wouldn't it be better to have a middle one that is more expensive and attractive than the first, making so your clients would go for the second option because they feel they are getting a better deal when it's not that much more work for you to do, for example, 25 photos with something extra vs just 15 in the first package?
@jonathanshiltonАй бұрын
Hi, sorry for the late reply. Doing prices by size can be a good way to go, and it’s how I started pricing mine. I changed however due to the fact that you could only give the size once you had been to the property. That’s why I changed to pricing it by the amount of photos. I then charge an additional 1p per Sq ft for properties over 2000 sq ft which makes up for the time spent drawing larger properties. In regards to having more than 2 packages, that’s absolutely fine. I did do 3 initially, but found people rarely went for the higher band, so to simplify it I just did two packages. Pricing is always a tricky thing and varies from place to place. You can check out my prices on my website. They probably seem crazy cheap compared to the American market, but they are competitively priced for here in the UK, and I still often get agents trying to push me down.

Hi, I had one question among others. Is it possible to reduce or remove the blur at the tripod foot (which is added automatically)? If I make my virtual tour directly from the Ricoh Theta application (my camera model), there is this blur between each shot.
@jonathanshilton2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I don’t think there is a way of removing this. I know other software providers have the option to add your own logo instead of just blur it, which would look much better. It’s something Matterport should perhaps take a look at. Thanks for watching and taking your time to comment.
