You might be right. However we noticed the bolt was loose on the field wire terminal and as soon as we tightened it we were back down to 13.8v. I will post more results after we replace the alternator.

I've always loved the Capri's, My older brother has had a 80 Capri since he was 16, his had the 3.3.L (200 CID) Inlne 6 which was the top motor option in 79 and 80, the 302/ 5.0 version didn't come out until 81. You are right about the Capri having more of a European performance look, They also didn't have an automatic/speed manual transmission until 81, ALL of the 79 and 80's were 3 speed manuals.

Integrity is what you do when no one is looking. Casting blame -- and any possible recovery on the USPS without purchasing extra insurance -- in light of his "efforts" to package it so inefficiently say in no uncertain terms that he doesn't care about anything except your money. Not the hobby, the parts, the people who devote their lives to restoring them, or having happy customers. It's pathetic and beyond sad anyone should have to endure an experience like yours Darren.

Agreed that the cost/benefit analysis doesn't pay out here. If your video helps just one person to make the right decision as to using him or not, it was worth the time to tell your story even if he keeps his side a secret. Nice looking car, there's a voltage limiter on the back of the gauge cluster that runs the temp and fuel gauge it's suppose to cut the voltage down from 12 to 5 volts, you will have to pull the cluster out to do your checks and replace the limiter if it needs it. Classic Industries should have them.

Stop with the drama, man. M&h makes it plug and play. You're acting like you have a painless wiring kit in front of you. The plugs will only fit in one place! And if you're doing that job without a schematic, then that's lame . There's no way you should have been on the phone needing all this assistance.

Cool video! I've done the Western leg of Route 66 from the Santa Monica Pier to Amarillo, and a few years ago we did some of the Route east of Amarillo up to Missouri. We stayed at the Boots Court Motel in Carthage which has been restored with all it's neon. You should book a weekend there sometime. Carthage is the County seat, and the first floor of the Courthouse is full of memorabilia. There is also a Civil War museum in the town square. Since you're in OK, you should head over to Tuscaloosa and check out the Blue Whale!

A guy I went to high school with back in 86, 87 had a hatchback Capri with the bubble glass in the back. It was a 5.0. Grey in color. I always liked the Capris. I would take one of those over a Mustang any day. Rare as hen's teeth nowadays. I guess that bubble back glass was a thing from '83 through the last year in '86.

He had a 79 Capri RS 5.0 coupe with manual and it has the cool forward facing hood scoop was a very cool car just faded silver black trim and the 302 2v 4 SPD OD manual with exhaust opened up it shredded the right rear tire great for what it was ... It didn't have a trac lok... hard to find now !

No he didn't, atleast not from factory, They didn't put a 302/5.0 engine in them until 81, ALL of the 79 and 80 Capris were either a inline 4 2.3L (140 CID) or a 3.3L (200 CID) Inline 6 and both had a 3 speed manual transmission. So if he had a 5.0 Capri it was either an 81 or newer or he put the 5.0 and 4 speed trans in himself or bought it from someone who did, it didn't come from the factory that way. My older brother is a walking/talking Mercury Capri Encylepedia.

You may be correct. However I ended up with 14 initial and 34 total. We will fine tune the engine once in the car, as we need to be cautious of spark lead with the compression being borderline pump gas friendly. These are also factory J Iron cylinder heads so just need to be aware of possible detonation.

87 GN here and the powermaster works fine if you maintain clean fluid in it. Most people don’t flush the lines and the rubber diaphragm gets eaten. You also need to depressurize the accumulator ball (“hand grenade” )by pumping the pedal 10-15 if you are going to not drive the car a week or more.

Great point! That's probably what killed this one, as my Dad wouldn't ever hardly drive the car for decades.

CRY, CRY, CRY... WAHHH............... You poor soul. You just did a beautiful job on one of the most neglected parts of many Mopar restorations. The dash ASSEMBLY and INSTALLATION. Now for a dose of reality! Put yourself way back in 1970... Doing an 8 HOUR shift at Hamtramck... You guessed it! Installing the dash assembly on HOW MANY A AND B body cars on those 2 lines in that shift? After thinking about that, are you feeling a little silly? Carry on, but QUIT complaining!

Driven 'racing' conventional 15/50 oil. 1.7 ratio rocker arm, lashed @ .012" cold. Broke in perfectly, excellent wear pattern on all sixteen lifters. 454 big block Chevy for a C3 Corvette, 510/566 hp/trq. Cheers!

I bought a set of Comp roller hyd lifters. The plunger inside the lifter was pressed down upon initial install and never came back up. They were pressed down by the valve spring upon setting rockers. I pulled down the lifter to find the internals were all rusted which jammed the internals. I contacted Comp and sent some photos they sent a new set out totally free. Didnt even ask for the old ones to be sent back. If your able to (have the tools), I'd recommend pull down every lifter and thoroughly inspect and clean each and every one before installation.

Take your charcoal canister out and move that K&N filter under the AC lines. Just leave the vent line for the canister. It will give you more room. I've owned and raced these since 87 and so much stuff you can do. Eric Marshall at Turbotweak sells the best chips on the market.

That’s not how you adjust the idle mixer screws. They are different. Right is low left is higher it it depends on what you are running as in standard or more aggressive. Standard you do the right side in till it cuts down then back out till it smooths out. Then the left side same way. If aggressive use you back out then screw in till it smooths out. Right side then left side. That’s my understanding from a more advanced carburetor video.
@blakesmusclecar
@blakesmusclecar Ай бұрын
I always use a vacuum gauge. Adjusting the idle mixture screws without a vacuum gauge is like shooting in the dark. In addition, I ALWAYS establish base timing first. I'm sure there may be better ways, however adjusting the screws without knowing what the engine likes (most vacuum) is just guessing in my humble opinion.
