Thanks for this! Btw, what % is the advisable difference between front and rear tire? Say I have 100/80-17 rear. How much thinner the front can get for best results?

I do that on my street, bikes, sport bikes, because of the extreme angle when I have the ball of my foot on the foot peg, especially while cornering. It tends to shut the circulation off being in that almost Crouch position. I do it to get the circulation back to do my feet after an hour or so depending on which bike I’m riding.. back when I was road racing in the 70s and 80s, winning six championships, two time national champion, on RDs. Mostly, I had my foot pegs relocated, back and up, which was legal for modified production. when I was younger, then, and I didn’t need to get the circulation, flowing back to my lower legs back then for some reason. Even on my factory Road race TZ250, I never had the urge

Would you recommend this bike for city riding, hooning around? (the just released road legal version, with supermoto wheels/tyres). Wondering how the range would be for city riding.

Technology back in 50's was that but nowdays the problem of COP ahead of COG could be fixed & to see a different & interesting design
@Himoutdoors14 күн бұрын
Grip is proportional to the coefficient of friction times the weight, but that coefficient of friction is not a fixed value. It changes based upon the load pressing it into the surface, the temperature, (which is dependent on the tyre width). Wider tyres have more mass and more ability (surface area) to dissipate heat. A big powerful bike needs big tyres not primarily for the contact patch, but because a smaller one would deform (affecting the CoF), overheat (affecting the CoF) and wear out quickly. So it does matter, but only secondarily. In a static situation contact patch doesn’t matter, but once it starts moving, slipping and generating heat, it does. What is the maximum G that a wider tyre can pull compared with a narrower one? I can’t believe it’s that much but if you have the data, I’d like to see.

Super interesting. Question: Are SM bikes really faster in corners than sportsbikes (with the same weight and power)?
@stefanhansen588219 күн бұрын
Watching this again. A lot of people claim SuperMotos are faster in corners. However, I'm wondering if this is only when compared to heavier sportsbikes? Is is SM with the same weight, same engine and same tires faster or slower than a sportsbike? In other words: Which geometry (SM or sportsbike) is faster in corners?

Contact patch has nothing to do with grip. You learn something new every day…..
@MikeonBikes23 күн бұрын
Hi, contact patch area is related to grip. Tire grip can be explained by lubricated friction. You are referring to F=uN, which is dry friction. Here are a couple of references for you: The Racing & High performance tire, Paul Haney, 2003 Motorcycle Handling and Chassis design, Tony Foale, 2002 Motorcycle Dynamics, Vittore Cossalter, 2006 Car suspension and Handling, Donald Bastow, 1993 Chassis Engineerings, Herb Adams, 1993 Competition car suspension, Allan Staniforth, 1988 Drive to win, Carroll Smith, 1996 Engineer to win, Carroll Smith, 1984 Please do not spread misinformation. What level of degree do you have in mechanical engineering or related fields?
@themotorcyclecoach23 күн бұрын
@ Yes. Masters in mechanical engineering. Sorry, I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m unconvinced. While I appreciate you “throwing the books at me” I haven’t got time to purchase and study a load of books. Why don’t you do a video explaining why you think contact patch matters? Change my mind. I studied engineering, I’m a logical person, show me why it makes a difference? If you have a grounding in mechanical engineering, why was your video so superficial? If you understand this stuff, explain it to people. I get it that a wider tyre helps in other useful ways - tyre rigidity to prevent deformation, heat dissipation to prevent the compound from cooking, and enough rubber to make the tyres last long enough (same with very wide car tyres with soft compound). Do you mean kinetic friction? Still no mention of area in there.
@MikeonBikes23 күн бұрын
@ if you’re not actually interested in understanding tire friction , why would I want to convince you of anything? Why would I even need to? The entire automotive industry knows the basics of tire friction, with disagreements on minute details.

@@MikeonBikes I am interested Mike, it's why I've asked you to explain it to me. We both have an engineering background by the sound of it, and you seem to think that I'm incorrect in my assertions, but you won't explain why. It's not very helpful. I don't work in the automotive industry, I'm a coach and I want to give people the right answers to questions. You have an audience of over 300k subscribers. You have a real opportunity to educate, not obfuscate. 3 minutes on any subject will get high rankings, but it's not enough time to explain a technical subject.

@@MikeonBikes I asked Chat GPT, here’s what it said; “Yes, the contact patch of a tyre is crucial for grip. The contact patch is the small area of the tyre that is in contact with the road at any given time, and it plays a vital role in determining how effectively a tyre can transfer forces between the vehicle and the road surface. How the Contact Patch Affects Grip: 1. Friction and Traction: • Grip is fundamentally determined by the friction between the tyre and the road. The contact patch is where this interaction occurs. A well-optimized contact patch allows for maximum utilisation of the tyre’s rubber compound to generate friction. • Tyre compounds are designed to balance adhesion and deformation for optimal grip. If the contact patch is too small, the tyre cannot make full use of its compound properties. 2. Load Distribution: • The size and shape of the contact patch affect how the load (weight of the car) is distributed across it. Uneven load distribution can lead to areas of the tyre being over-stressed, reducing grip and causing uneven wear. 3. Pressure and Deformation: • The tyre’s pressure influences the size and shape of the contact patch. Under-inflation increases the contact patch, but can deform the tyre, reducing efficiency and causing overheating. Over-inflation decreases the contact patch, reducing grip. • Proper inflation ensures that the tyre maintains an optimal contact patch shape, maximizing grip. 4. Cornering and Handling: • During cornering, the contact patch shifts and deforms to handle lateral forces. Tyres with a larger or well-optimized contact patch handle these forces better, resulting in improved stability and grip during turns. 5. Surface Conditions: • On wet or uneven surfaces, the contact patch plays a role in how well the tyre can maintain grip. Wider contact patches can help prevent hydroplaning by better dispersing water through tread patterns. 6. Tyre Design: • Tyre construction (radial, bias-ply) and tread patterns are engineered to work with the contact patch to ensure maximum grip under specific conditions like dry, wet, or off-road surfaces. Key Takeaways: • The contact patch size must balance the need for grip with other factors like rolling resistance and wear. • Grip isn’t just about having a large contact patch-it’s about having the right size, shape, and pressure for the driving conditions and the vehicle’s dynamics. • Proper maintenance, including tyre pressure and alignment, ensures that the contact patch is optimized for the best grip. Understanding and optimizing the contact patch is a central part of tyre design and vehicle performance tuning.” So contact patch is a second order effect when it comes to grip.

I find if you shit yourself when exiting a corner it allows you to accelerate out faster, then when you enter the next corner you want to suck the shit back into your anus to allow for quicker cornering. Its all about weight distribution. When exiting the corner you want your weight to be lower so you shit yourself and while cornering you want your weight to be higher so you suck the shit back up again. Complete anal and bowel control is an highly advanced professional technique. Its also very important to control you diet before a race. Last thing you want is lowside on diarrhea

6:04 two riders who did similar things are Mick Doohan & Valentino Rossi. They would often hang back & in my assessment, apply pressure to the other rider, make them use up their tire, then make the pass and run away. Their opponent couldn't keep up because they had already wore out their tires from the pressure. Another racer who did similar moves is Ricardo Ronaldo, who would do fake and bluff passes to throw off the other car's line, then make an easy pass. In the case of Marquez, I think he would race just close enough to the other rider that he thought MM was going to attempt a pass, when in reality he was just applying pressure and using his tires just a bit less.
@davidboydarnott41728 күн бұрын
I thought by using the knee slider you are actually keeping the bike at a more upright angle , less likely that the front will wash out and if it does if you push harder it can grip again. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXqkeqiiqdV6brssi=EeNaIxmZrISkCmOG👍 Too many people are just passengers, riding a superbike is as much a workout as going to a gym and you should expect to deliver a lot of physical input.

You need to consider the use of rear brake using thumb lever as one of the factor
@joshuaanothereraseddadАй бұрын
The first example should also include the fact that the brakes and tires are far superior to the average street bike. That plays a huge factor in how much stopping force is exerted.. The same goes for mountain biking. Although I personally ride at a competitive level I cannot compete in the top tier due to limitations in componentry. But, back to the bike. It's not the body position alone that creats such force.

To comment on no.2, I would say it is a "same body inertia awareness"(if that´s makes sense haha). When you are driving or even more accentuated of a feel when riding, there´s a real merge of bodies and connected moving parts, but you feel as a single body of the combined weights, only shifting slightly in between the conecting parts, and so it happens, your body is linked to te same parts that do the same job when separated, arms elbows and hands sensing everithing from it´s connection to the handle and fork, the legs knees and feet feeling everything from the connection to the frame and the bonus of the shifting counter balance of the legs to feel the balance of the center mass, etc etc. It amazes me how far that sensory connection reaches with guys like marc but a little more that so few people don´t feel this at all when they sit, stand, lay, grab, hang, etc, etc, to a vehicle...hahah

As I understand it, as I drive motorcycle , in motocross you load rear wheel to prevent slipping more than you need to control better the bike passing faster corner , in moto go , you do opposite, you load front wheel to break harder to have more traction .
