Maybe. It really depends on what visa and working rights you have. For example, the majority of jobs go to citizens and permanent residents. It’s less about the qualifications and more about the experience and working rights. Hope this helps mate

Dear DC CyberSec, I have been following your informative and succinct videos for the past year and have greatly appreciated the valuable insights they provide. I am currently in my final year of Computer Science, expecting to graduate with my bachelor’s degree in 2025. I am planning to move abroad in January or February of 2026 to pursue further studies in cybersecurity and information security. I am considering several countries, including Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Switzerland, for my master’s program. Each country has its own requirements and advantages. Specifically, I am interested in whether New Zealand would be a good choice for pursuing a master's degree in cybersecurity or information security, particularly at the University of Auckland or other top public universities. I would greatly appreciate your advice or any tips you could provide. My main objectives are to secure a decent salary and to find opportunities for starting a business or working as a freelancer in the tech field, especially in cybersecurity. I hope you will reply me Thank you for your assistance.

@dccybersec27 күн бұрын
Deakin and QUT are great universities. As for getting a job, if you’re applying to government jobs, you won’t get one. To get a government role in cybersecurity you need to be eligible for a clearance, and the only way to get a clearance is to be a citizen. You can apply for jobs (not on a student visa) in the private sector though

Hi Dave, I've just bumped into your channel while trying to figure out what's better to start out with - blue team, or red team. I didn't know that what I was looking for is actually freelancing! But now I'm wondering whether it's realistic to get into freelancing straightaway or not. I have experience with freelancing as a bookkeeper, and also happen to have a bunch of free time on my hands, about 2 hours per day, and more on weekends. I wouldn't mind at all skipping the office entirely. What would you recommend in my case? Could I give you more details, and questions as a paid request? Have to mention though, I'm from Latvia, so I may not be able to afford your services. Perhaps should just go through your courses?

Hey mate, happy to help! It’s certainly possible to go straight into freelancing - and that’s what we would talk about in regular one on one sessions via membership on learn.saferinternetproject.com What it really comes down to is effort you put in to gaining clients. The education side of how to do the job is all inclusive of membership, as well as a helping hand from myself and the team at SIP on any engagements you bring in. Happy to have a chat mate!

Got it! Question (for anyone to answer), how long do you think it'll take a bookworm to read and actually retain the information after studying it. Reading and studying are two different things. And or how long did it take you to finish learning enough to become functional and competent enough to proceed ahead and work in the field you studied (anyone can answer)?
@dccybersec29 күн бұрын
6-12 months on average is what I see most people taking to undergo a set of courses towards getting something entry level. The ultimate key to success is work experience

Feel free to roast how dumb I am for giving up an opportunity as easy as that one.
