I went through that same thing late last year into the first half of 24. I have a 190 Sq ft shop with lots of tools. The old setup had no flow and made it not enjoyable to work in. Over the summer, I gutted it and redid the layout. It is still cramped, but at least it has a workflow now. I have been back out there at least 3 nights a week and one day on the weekend having fun again.

I can't imagine turning an enjoyable hobby into a job. When I'm not inspired to do some wood working I do other things. Eventually something gets me into the shop - like trying a new finish, or a new tool, or using a tool in a new way. It's playing. Play is good.

Force yourself to go out there…why? Unless I were a KZbin woodworker having moment of angst about running out of ideas, why in God’s name would I force myself to do something I normally enjoy when I don’t feel like it? Are we actually talking about woodworking here or KZbin burn out?

DAVE! *Shakes him* I am retired so I play (go into the shed) when I want to. For me there is ALWAYS something to do. Whether its working on a Comissioned piece or Improving my current layout (Maybe make a new MIghtier Miter Table Hint Hint ...). For me, I find inspiration everywhere I go ... I get in the mind set of Hey I could build that and probably better. Sometimes Just listening to people's conversations, sometimes there is a potential problem that you could build something to help or improve their issue. For example, my misses was at a craft fair 2 weeks ago and one of the vendors wished that their display stand was deeper (The shelf depth), my wife messaged me and asked if could I make that and I was Hell yes!, The woman was overjoyed and paid for the wood and my time up front. It's at the door ready for pick up now. Song writers gather the words for their songs by listening to people around them or real life issue Bad or good. Now having said all that, my life is not yours nor is yours not mine. I have not been woodworking anywhere near as long as you and probably most people reading this, but I enjoy going to the shed to play (Work) any chance I get. I plan what I want to do tomorrow and reminisce on the current days accomplishments. OK, maybe I am rambling on... anyways Dave, please take care and take the time you need to mentally recover.

Sounds like I’m listening to some girl whining about life, bro. If you can’t find motivation that means you’re not making enough money in it and get out of it. Only problem I ever have is finding the time to do more. Every second of my day is filled with work that’s how it should be every second you should be making money.

There is so many things wrong with your comment... Motivation is different for different people and it's not always money. And good for you for working your self to death, that's not for everyone but you putting someone down because they aren't as alpha as you think you are isn't a reason to beat them down.

I listen to a lot of Adam Savage and he calls the shop a working space. Whether it's making or neglected shop infrastructure; for me that's usually cleaning up after old projects. *Sometimes* it's improving organization and that's what usually really gets me back into the flow.

Nice Build, BUT.... and I hope you don't take this as being too critical of your work. The thought of that one Black vertical piece being angled from the top to the front would not be a good idea at all, because if you did that, the table would not be able to stand up. One other thing too. You painted the black pieces before assembly, which is fine. I would have done the same thing. BUT, you painted the ends where they will attach to the Top and to the Front as well. This was not a good thing to do. Even tho you added glue to attach the black ends to the Top and Front, they were painted and the glue will not Hold very well to the painted surfaces. You would have been better off to leave those ends UNpainted, so that the glue can hold a lot better directly to the wood, instead of a painted surface. Just my 2 cents, No offence intended. Otherwise, a nice table.
@TimberDesigns
@TimberDesigns 4 күн бұрын
Thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate it! The angled option I mentioned would still be straight down in the front but angled towards the back, so would have been the same support. Regarding the painting, I couldn't agree more. I mistakenly did the one end but I didn't do the other end, always best to glue with a clean surface.

Nice work, I was surprised that you didn't do a test joint on scrap to verify the fit as you haven't used that bit before. I am cautious about that bit too, I have been looking at it and it is a quite involved process to set it all up correctly. Never used one of those miter lock bits . Would you recommend using it over traditional 45° bevels ?
@TimberDesigns
@TimberDesigns 5 күн бұрын
I would say it depends on the project. If you need strength on the joint like this table, absolutely, but if it's a mitre with minimal strength needed, like a picture frame, I'd pass. The advantage to this bit is the ability to have a dead on 45 angle with no gaps, in theory anyways lol. I've seen these used a lot on faux beams.

The bit is pretty nerve racking for sure, but outside of the pain of the set up, it worked great. Hey, thanks so much! Well, I'm in Ontario, CA and it is a bit tougher to sell many things right now cause not many can afford more expensive things.
