Your belts appear to be good enough to do a little baling. If you think they are a little loose you can tighten them up but make sure both sides are even. Lubricate all of that linkage so when the bale is discharged it slaps back together. Putting a belt on the upper beater will help feeding, the beater can also be removed if desired. Go in with a wire brush and clean inside the pulleys for the conveyor belt, Im guessing they are rusty and the belt is dragging. This will probably help with you conveyor constantly running issue.

One of my earliest memories of my grandpa was watching him bale with a D17 and roto baler. Had the white top. It broke down when I was 5 in 1981 he unhooked right out in the field and it sat there until 2011 when my parents sold the farm. We just hayed and farmed around it all those years. It was a pain I think.

Our neighbour had a Allis rotobaler here on the West Wales coast in the 60's As a boy I remember watching it working on the sloping fields around here, many bales would roll to the bottom of the field. Less traveling for collection.

UK, England. My Dad had one in the mid 70s. He pulled it with an MF 35 3CYL. I seem to remember he declutched everytime a bale was tieing the feed also stopped to prevent jamming the chamber. This machine wrecked his left knee with all the declutching.😂

Nice baler. Just need adjustments as the conveyer has to stop completely the second the twine arm drops. As is now it just runs more hay in while it is wrapping. Fix that and you will have a super machine.

I'm from Northwest Iowa, and remember seeing those bales in the fields on the way to the Black Hills. Now l finally get to see the machine that made them . Btw, my first job was raking hay with an A John Deere. My cousin ran the hay buck and my Dad and Uncle were stacked the hay. Without a cage !

Dad baled many a thousand with one sometimes pulling it with a D2 Cat without live PTO. Had to stop and put in neutral each time to wrap and eject. Always used bale hooks when handling the bales. Neighbor lost his life when he was pulled into one after reaching in. The newer ones had an overhead conveyor above the main apron that would "recycle" the hay to allow continuous ground motion while the bale was tying and ejecting. Right?
@lizzymorrisonmusicandfarml57142 ай бұрын
I think the newer ones are just supposed to stop the apron while tying but we need to tighten that belt

One of my earliest memories of haying was an old AC round bailer back in mid-late 50's. Stacking round bales on wagon then in the barn. Last memory of that bailer (I must have been about 6 yrs old) was watching it burn up in the field one day. That's when we went to square bales and knotter headaches LOL Thanks for the memories.

That is the most temperamental, dangerous and deadly pieces of farm machinery ever manufactured. One about killed my dad in 1963 he continued to use it for another ten years. The ONLY thing good about that baler is that the bales could lay in the field for months with very little spoilage

I have had my back side, chewed on more than once for bad raking. I tie a bucket on the side of baler and run big baler twine. Also learned you don't grease the baler until you get 40 or 50 bales through it. So you don't have to fight the rust as bad.
@JohnSlaughter-x5m2 ай бұрын
Thanks for filming and demo-ing some of the eccentricities and particulars. Just bought a nice shedded one. On the farm I’d mow and rake, Dad would bale with this Rotobaler, I’d buck, haul and stack in the barn for winter feed. This video took me back. 👍🏻. John Slaughter, Greenwood, MO.

Keep putting in hay after the arm drops so it is making a nasty looking bale.
@corerltАй бұрын
That was a huge amount of money in 1973. You could have boaught a new car or pickup with that money. Instead you were picking bales off the ground.
@theboyfat2Ай бұрын
I baled tens of thousands of bales with a Rotobaler. Also picked them up and hauled them to the barn and put them in the loft ! Looks like you need to adjust the rod the stops the conveyor when the twine arm drops. Another thing my Dad always made sure of was to keep the twine knife razor sharp. We had hilly hay ground but had no trouble hauling round bales. There is an art to it. One thing to keep in mind is that most bales will have one end slightly smaller than the other so it needs to be placed to the center of the wagon.
@1southerncowboy2 ай бұрын
I have made many a thousand bales with the A-C Roto-Baler When they are right they work great --- never miss a bale. Bale would be 3 feet long and just under 2 feet in diameter. You could adjust the density and make them really tight. If you raked uniform double windrows the baler worked great and made beautiful bales. Once baled they would shed water like the big round bales --- another advantage over square bales. (I am 79 years old now.)
