Can I make it a 10 foot wide gate ? 5 feet each side I purchased 2 metal braces you can order

SLOPPY JOB! you got it on the brick wall, the wood siding, even on the tree! IT STAINS, DUMMY!! I just finished Thompson sealing the neighbors fence and when I got it on the bricks I wash it off right away, but IT STILL STAINS! yes its clear but it still darkens almost everything you get it on outside

I use a pump zero, that way it keeps the same pressure and you dont have to pump

This is 100% the wrong way. I have to teach people who learn this way. Not bracing, no good crossbeams, no actual support on the brackets. In fact, this is a quick way to end the job, collect a paycheck and move on. I fix this crap all the time. 2 year warranty? No good friend. I can put a 15 year warranty on my gates. They’re built like tanks because they’re built right.

I am curious why you would use metal posts for a wooden fence. Those posts are 3x the cost of a wood post and it just looks awful. Also no frame on the gate makes it look incomplete. And the angled boards do nothing on the latch side

Hey brother great video. Can you tell me exactly what type of brackets to hold your two by fours in place and how you got your metal post into the ground and made sure they were all even? Thanks!

My wood fence is 7 months old and still looks new plan to seal it soon .I installed it my self although it's not perfect it looks fine to me as the " fence" contractors wanted to charge outrages labor rates for them to do it I done it for a fraction of what they wanted.

Great video. I tried using my Ryobi backpack sprayer and the Thompson water seal was too thick and wouldn’t spray. Just tiny fluttering that’s it. What the hell am I doing wrong?

Gotta shake it/ mix it properly . There are attachments for drill bits that helps you mix, makes all the difference when spraying !

Dude. You built your cross members backwards. They slope down from the hinge when they should slop up from the hinge since the wood works better under compression. Also, you said yourself that the pickets will shrink so the lag screws that you put in to secure the hinges are going to split the wood as it dries. How have you been doing fence for ten years yet be making these rookie mistakes? A two year warranty? Hahah bet you get a lot of calls on those gates in the future

Love that you took the time to show my biggest problem when buliding fences--the gate My only question is how would I do it with a board on board gate that swings INTO the yard, not out.
@louie1487 Жыл бұрын
Assuming board on board side is outward facing, the hinges are installed on the inside and on the 2x4 itself.
@gregoryj5874 Жыл бұрын
@@louie1487 OK, thanks. I did that and it worked. However, what latches can you recommend that allows one to open gate from outside?

@aoe2geek Жыл бұрын
This happened to us too. Guy in the video said if doesnt matter if you overspray and that might be true on a fence because any excess will just drip down but on a deck the excess will just puddle. I recommend using a medium nap painting roller to grab up the excess that is still on there after a few hours. Dont worry you arent removing any of the protection as its already soaked up what it needs in order to be efficient, youre just getting rid of the excess.
