I like shooting almost anything backlit but some wildflowers/leafs/etc. & Egrets are some of my favorites. Haven’t had the pleasure of try to photograph pelicans as of yet. Great vid.

Hi clementstevens, The blind is homemade based on the floating blinds made by Mr.Jangear, which you can buy online at mrjangear.com

From a Florida Herper recently starting birding, love the vids! Here's a few correction on the reptiles the "Black Rat Snake" was just a Black Racer, we do get eastern rat snakes in south Florida but ours are yellow or orange not black. Also the "Green Anole" was actually a Bark Anole(Anolis distichus) so quite possibly a lifer for you and lastly the ones you thought were swifts or fence lizards were also just curly tails, they often don't have the tails curled up.
@SparkyStensaas4 сағат бұрын
Wow….Thanks for the great info SwampApe!! I appreciate it. Yes, the Bark Anole would be a lifer! Unfortunately, KZbin doesn’t let you correct things in videos very easily so I guess I’ll have to live with it. Thanks for your input!

Bite your tongue when you talk about replacing the loon as state bird of MN. <G> It's my home state and loons and ruffed grouse are my favorites from home.
@SparkyStensaas4 күн бұрын
Ha! I’m only half serious but many states have loons yet Minnesota has over half the worlds population of Golden-winged Warders. Just saying…
@sandrawamsley38763 күн бұрын
@@SparkyStensaas Okay, enjoyed your video all the same and we do claim the loon as OUR bird. LOL! It's call defines it as THE northern state and would think something was wrong if others tried to make it their state bird. Can't begin to tell you the feeling that call invokes but then I grew up there and suppose a lot of people who weren't out where they could hear them might not agree.

@SparkyStensaas4 күн бұрын
That’s true! But since Minnesota has over 50% of the breeding population, I really think we have to make it our state bird. Michigan’s should absolutely be the Kirtland’s Warbler!

Fantastic footage, Sparky!!! I loved especially your Ruffed Grouse video and still!!! Was that a veery I heard in the background? I don't think you all are probably so impressed with the veery or the Loon, since they're pretty common up in your area. But here, they are like TREASURE as they migrate through!! I'd like to pick up a copy of your book when it goes on sale. Thank you for sharing your images from Rice Lake!!! How far is that from the Bog?

I really liked the Canada Goose family image. Very different. I live in Winona in SE Minnesota and have never seen or got a sound recording on Merlin of that Blue-gray Gnatcatcher but I will be on the look out for one!!
@SparkyStensaas4 күн бұрын
Thanks, Andrew… I really appreciate specific feedback on photos! There was some heat haze coming off the road, so not super sharp but I still like the idea. Blue-gray Gnatcatchers are so hard to get photos of cause they’re usually way up in the top of the canopies. Song is in the high range, but Merlin should be able to pick it up. Mature deciduous forests.

Hi 1coolkitty, I am the executive Director so I don’t guide anymore. But on our website, there are six or seven guides listed. Sparky - have you ever tried our home-grown 3M Ultrathon insect repellent? I've had very good luck with it in the BWCAW. Also, we used to live next to St Croix Bluffs Regional Park near Afton and you might want to consider an outing there if you haven't been yet. The location along the St Croix River just up from the Mississippi seemed to bring in quite a variety of birds.

funny story, when I occupied this old farm house in northern Wisconsin, a white weasel scurried across the kitchen floor one day. He kept the vacant house free of the little ones. Its April 2024 and am enthused to go out to the woods to look for droppings of the ruffed grouse's drumming log. Be nice to run across a black bear. .
