Schiff gives an extraordinary account of one of Beethoven's greatest works. The first movement's relentless raindrops give way to a deluge of sound that sculpts its phrases like the very hand of God. The second movement draws a brief curtain over the proceedings, allowing the listener a moment of contemplative anticipation before the light slowly dawns on the final but never quite finished masterpiece. Its brief allusion to the Fidelio Prisoners' Chorus, followed by the eerie, seductive magic of the subsequent phrases hint at Beethoven's lifelong quest to comprehend the mysteries of the universe and of his place in it. I believe this piece places Beethoven alongside the foremost minds of the Enlightenment even as it opens the door on one of the greatest periods of artistic achievement the world has ever seen. Bravo to Schiff for his interpretive brilliance.

Una versión exquisita de este memorable concierto. En manos de Schiff y con esta enorme orquesta en sus manos hace que el maestro de Salzburgo suene a Beethoven.

What a beautiful performance of this work that is rarely performed. One can sense Schumann loosing his mind when listening to this amazing rendition. Pity that the audio recording quality is so awful.

Schiff's influence by Gould really shows on this piece along with his devotion to the more baroque and less sustainy technique that Gould pioneered and that Schiff brings to the piece. this was written for fortepiano and should feature relatively strong polyphony and a direct key attack

El señor Schiff, hace una interpretación perfecta. Un gran dominio del piano. Pero su interpretación, sea cual sea el compositor que interpreta, siempre me suena igual. Mi humilde opinión de lego.

I think it's a completely new interpretation of Mozart. The piano sounds like it's singing, like a member of a choir, and the intimate combination with the orchestra is refreshing. Schiff is of course an authority on Mozart, so I think the arrangement is based on solid music theory. This type of experiment with new playing styles(piano & direction)has a persuasive power because of this kind of person.

Note that Bach only got to be a great composer, according to the BBC, when all his keyboard works were played in an anachronistic manner, on an instrument which he never met.

Imagine receiving this piece of music as a going away present. I wonder if Johann's brother really understood how much of a gift this really was. And this music truly shows that even in his early years, Bach had a truly impressive command of melody, harmony, and counterpoint.

What a shame. I just read on Wiki Mr Schiff is anti nationalism. He wants his country to be a mere EU province dictated to be Brussels EUrocrats & in effect anyone who thinks the migrant invasion of young men of an alien culture should be stopped, is a racist !
