I still have three books to go in this series and I am feeling a bit disappointed. I find the books difficult to read (don't know if it is because English is my second language or what), but I think the books get really bogged down with all the names... so many characters with difficult names. Sometimes the names are so long and sometimes a character has more than one name (this is character 'bla bla' of 'bla bla bla' al 'blah', also called 'blaaaa blaaa', I just lose interest because what does all of these names matter to the story. I can't wrap my head around it. I'm also not sure what the plot is, if there is one. At least in the short stories there seemed to be plot...and strangely enough, I actually liked the short story collections better than the 'normal' novels, so far. As you said, why isn't there a map? Sometimes I wonder why people complain so much about Dresden of the Dresden files and his 'male gaze...', but those same people love this world and series, in which women are treated and displayed horribly? I don't understand? At the moment I try to read 1 Witcher book a month, but it seems as if I have to force myself to continue, I'm not very motivated to finish the series, but the books are on my shelf, so I will finish, just not with a lot of enthusiasm.

The writing style is a bit difficult and I agree the short stories felt like they flowed together better than the main novels for some reason. I kept going because I owned them too, and don't recommend doing so especially if your disliking more than enjoying them. I've never understood the talk against Dresden but maybe I'm just overlooking it while reading. Here I can see it showing horrible treatment of women but I believe its intentional, that your supposed to be upset by how they are treated.

The format of the books will change a bit with Blood of Elves. I can't really remember how the female characters are painted in the short stories anymore. The series overall does try to show horrible treatment of women in the world so maybe it is along those line there too?

I enjoyed your passion and enthusiasm, keep making reviews! But I'd recommend watching the spoilers and try to treat it more as a review speaking to someone who hasn't read it. More about your experience and how it spoke to you and less of a synopsis. A good example was when you talked about the world building, how you loved it. When you talked about the lore it was essentially just spoilers. People can find that kind of info from many sources, what makes youtube reviews unique is you and your opinions.
@BookedPanda
@BookedPanda Ай бұрын
Thank you 😊. I suppose the Lore section might be spoilery 😓 To me though it seemed okay to share as most of that information didn't affect the knowledge of this story. I'll have to try to think on what others might consider to much information. Probably didn't do Shallan justice in why she's awesome in this review either, but at least there's the next book to explain that with.
@l337hackzor
@l337hackzor Ай бұрын
@@BookedPanda I kind of regretted the comment after I made it cause it's not like I know what I'm talking about, so please take it with a grain of salt. I didn't really mean that the lore section was too spoilery more that you didn't say how you like or disliked it or why. In any case, not a big deal. I think Shallan gets a lot more interesting in the next book! through The Way Of Kings some of her chapters made me want to skip just to get back to Kaladin. Probably more of a reflection of Sanderson leaving Kal on a cliff hanger than Shallan being boring.

It's fine constructive criticism is helpful, made me think about how much I do or don't talk about feelings in my reviews.
