We loved living there back in 2000 but just all holiday homes now. Our lovely New Zealand Hunterway Sophie would run that beach every day. Her ashes are scattered in the dunes. The place she loved best.

There is a shelter in Devonport Park which is open. It's been fenced off but you can still get in. Near the Torpoint ferry.

I’ve loved this beach since I was around five. I’m now 72 so that’s a long time. I’ve moved to Scotland and we have some amazing beaches up here. In both area you need to be very aware of the tide times. Plus watch it doesn’t fill in behind you and please watch your children at all times.

Where is that road at the beginning, with the car parks all along the way? Be an ideal mobility walk for an elderly relative?

Hi Paul, it's North Cliffs/Hells Mouth between Godrevy and Portreath, its a decent walk but there can be a lot of loose stones etc to look out for 😊

@@TrippingCornwall many thanks, I’m getting senile in my old age lol, we are staying north of Newquay this year. Having walked the wonderful section of those North Cliffs, I saw your great footage, and said to the wife. “There’s a section near Crantock, just like North Cliffs. If I could find where it is it would be great for your elderly dad” AND it is the North Cliffs, lol. Thank you for at least trying to educate an old fool!

@@paulburnett1344 lol no problem! It's probably my fault was using drone footage of North cliffs in a video titled "Crantock", at the time I was trying to give some interesting visuals as I tend to ramble on for way too long about all sorts!

Nice video and we are going down to Cornwall in June this year (2024)staying in a cottage in Redruth for three weeks this year. I went out on my own for a bike ride (64 then, 66 now), the day before, I went to the coast and turned left towards Hayle. The next day (this video) I turned right towards Portreath from both from Tahidy park. This was on my HEAVY E-bike (peddle assist) and it nearly finished me off. Take a look if you like and see my suffering 😉. I am going to try and do it again this year, but record the two valleys before this video that was gruelling so record all of it next time. I’m also going to drive to where you started this from and do this one you did in this video. Great video and it has given me ideas for other places to ride. I love Crantok beach both my children live in Cornwall now. But when the were smaller we went to this beach. We’d watch them float past us on their rubber rings. Go up back to the top of the stream and do it again. They would do this for ages only stopping for food and drink. It’s a lovely beach and doesn’t get as crowded as the others😊

I was there recently and found a route a bit more direct but not necessarily easier than walking from Lands End. I found a rutted lay-by on the road which heads down to Porthgwarra, where you walk down a narrow track heading west form the lay-by. Takes about 30-40 mins...!

It's a fantastic, kid friendly beach. Plenty of parking if you know where to look and plenty of exploring and different things to do at different stages of the tide. Also one of few beaches that gets wider nearer high tide than low tide.
