Thank you Harry! I have always adored this song and can't wait to try it. I enjoy hearing the correct pronunciation of the beautiful Hawaiian words sung in your lovely voice. Aloha.

Just bought a Square Neck Tricone and do not know where to go from here and need your help. I am so confused with what tunning I should use. It is in open G Taro Patch right now, DGDGBD thinking this is a Hawaiian tunning. Now I just discovered the Lap Guitar videos I have been watching are DOBRO, GBDGBD. Then I found someone who says he uses ''A-Highbass the early version of the infamous Dobro tuning that in the early style of Sol Hoopii used. I have .016 to .059 strings on as National Guitar told me to do for open G or D tuning. Do I use the Dobro tunning GBDGBD or open G, DGDGBD or A C# E A C# E turned down that I cannot figure out so I do not need to buy special strings?? Thank you!!!
@Harrysguitar21 күн бұрын
Jerry Byrd played in about 13 different higher Hawaiian steel guitar tunings. You need to use lighter strings. String 1 - .015 String 2 - .017 or .018 String 3 - .018 -.020 String 4 - .022 - .023 String 5 - .026w String 6 - .030w - .032w
@ericjames768020 күн бұрын
@@Harrysguitar I think I will use what Bob Brozman used. He is said to use Taro open G with the .016 to .059 strings .

I would love to play this but am Leary how it would be received by locals on Maui. Cultural tensions are so high right now that I don’t want to offend if I should mispronounce a lyric or two or be seen as cultural appropriation. Maybe I’ll just listen to your beautiful rendition.

I was raised in Maui Hawaii as a lil Haole boy. And ill tell you what. If you just played that around some locals all friendly and confidently sang and played with your heart. And try to pronounce it the best you can. They would be weirded out a little bit and shocked, but the Locals would still give you hella respect. Just the fact you are willing to actually embrace the culture and give respects and also entertain them. It dont matter at all theyd be interested for sure! There is definitely some tension being white in hawaii. You do have to prove yourself more. But also Hawaiians are deeply respect oriented and also super proud of their culture. So if you really pay homage then you are all good all Pono! But i would say play it around actual hawaiians and remember most people in Hawaiia aren't hawaiian natives but mixes of filipino, Tongan, Japanese, Ect. And might just look Hawaiian. Then you play and they wouldnt even get it at all. Lol. Also make sure you at least know what the lyrics roughly mean when they ask you. But yeah the Hawaiian culture is awesome and definitely learn to play this and take it to the islands- No F's Given
@tednottoddАй бұрын
@@BreadLobby thanks for the information. I understand a bit of the culture, but I don’t have any local friends to ask about what is pono and what isn’t regarding music. I’ve never gotten anything but good vibes, I suspect that understanding respect is earned on the islands probably helps.

Hi Harry. Why no cover of "Pupu A ʻO ʻEwa"? I guess it is copyrighted. It would be great if you could teach it on the guitar. I know that you did Pearly Shells on the ukulele, but the melody seems different with the Hawaiian lyrics. Anything that you could do on guitar with lyrics or an instrumental would be great
