After what Coverdale did to him I wouldn't blame Sykes for being so protective of his work.

Maybe Coverdale wasn't wrong. Damn.

I met Johnny in 1989 at the Limelight, here in NYC. I've met many famous musicians and I can honestly say, he took my breath away. Everytime he touched me, my heart would skip a beat. He was the whole package- the epitome of a rock star. I will never forget him, or the time we spent together. RIP, Johnny ♥

It’s actually no surprise to hear that John was like this as he says so in the lyrics to I Don’t Want To Live My Life Like You. They say I'm lazy Kinda crazy Man, I'll tell ya that they might Just have it right Some people think I'm a fool Cause I don't play by their rules I really don't give a damn They say I live in a daze I'm just a f*cking disgrace It's just the life that I planned Now I don't wanna live my life like you I'll lay around And do just what I do I don't wanna your advice Or you might just pay the price No, I don't wanna live my life like you

Being John and Mike were close Trumk seems to be saying John was not impressed or convinced by Billy, which mostvwould say, how is that possible? Billy is amazing

Every story I hear about John he becomes my favorite guitar player and musician more and more. He was clearly traumatized from Coverdale’s betrayal in Whitesnake, and then later when blue murder failed to make it in the U.S. so sad. I’d do anything to hear him play again.

Your story makes sense. John was beat by Coverdale and done dirty.

David Coverdale Is the primary reason of the John's unease. Now Coverdale had a huge burden on his shoulders because of that.

No surprise, really. The most creative and intelligent amongst us are usually very eccentric. Artists, more often than not, are their own biggest critics. Perfection is what they strive for. John has been and will be, missed!

About the tributes, I understand that a 20 year guy doesnt know him, but I expected more tributes of some players of that era. I checked the Instagram of Steve Vai, Satriani, Billy Sheehan, and some others, and found nothing. Maybe because of personal issues?
John was very reserved guy , he never enjoy giving interviews !

As a gen X male, it’s been horrifying , heartbreaking, devastating, and just unbelievably disappointing to watch the male population turn into the most beta , wussy, immature, pathetic, helpless, crybabies over the last few generations in history of mankind-EVER- as time passes by. I REALLY HOPE this was a joke, but even if it was, it still drives home my point. Makes me sick… 🤢

Sykes' reticence is evidence we can be our own worst enemy. I've also missed a lot of opportunities by letting bad experiences in the past detour me from the right path. I also had a demo that I was very insecure about. I didn't want my drummer to play it for anybody. Well, if he didn't defy me, we never would have found a frontman and gotten a slew of gigs and other opportunities.

I’m with you on the own worst enemy. Qualified for a lot of things. Some people managed to help derail a lot because of predjudice what I did for a living wasn’t til a military friend, of all people- mentioned he thought I had ‘Imposter Syndrome’ - not something I would listen to normally. If only he said years before! Started believing these so called elite (prima Donna’s) would keep doing me over. When I think about what I missed out on- doh! Thanks for the comment. Yours Aye!

John was a perfectionist and did not want people pushing him. Nobody was ever able to get into his head and push him in the way that he would have needed. Hey, we got some polished creation out of him, which was epic. It's all good. Psychology is such an interesting study! Did John ever see a shrink?

Coverdale royally screwed up with Sykes and the 1987 studio band. Royally screwed up over greed and wanting to be the star. Let’s face it. Without Sykes. Coverdale would have gone back to selling sweaters.
