Here’s the thing about setting emotion; music gives you a specific feeling. I make music pretty often and the amount of times I’ve tried to feel an emotion in the music I play it ends up sounding like something else. It’s almost like driving an emotional response requires a certain progression. That’s exactly what it is. Well noticed though, I’ve never got that far on Mario 64 and as soon as I heard the music I thought about crisis city. Ultimately these are two completely different songs overall and you’re only comparing 5-6 seconds of chord progressions. If you look hard enough you might just find that same chord progression in other video game media.

Youre MORE likely to accidentally write the same 5 chrord progression if youve heard it before, even once. That said, the sounds dont sounds similar. Theres a main melody in the M64 track that is completely absent in the S06 track. I think its a stretch.

Wow, finally someone who I almost entirely agree with. The only ones I'd change would be mystic cave for sonic 2 and quartz quadrant present for Cd, but chemical plant and stardust speedway present both happen to be my second favorite in those games. Thou have great musical taste!

I don't think it was intentional. It's just a few notes at the beginning of the song. I would have never even noticed the similarities, had they not been pointed out. Interesting video though.

Love the video! Great points about the effects of the movie on future projects. The editing's as great as ever! Seriously, it reminds me a lot of the style and humor Game Theory has, which is a huge accomplishment. May the algorithm be generous with this one.

Unfortunately not had much time on mania. So far I don't really like ray (not used to his glide thing yet) and not sure how sonics drop spin works yet as usually tails or knuckles
@lemoncakestudios303118 күн бұрын
It took me forever to learn the drop dash too. I didn’t use it my entire 1st playthrough. All you need to do is jump, re-press and hold the button, and then when you land Sonic will drop dash. I’ve heard a lot of people say Ray’s glide is a little weird: when you jump, press jump again to start the glide, then press forward to dive down, and then backward to pull up. If you do this in a repeated pattern, Ray will glide up and down to gain speed in the air

Great job on the video @Lemoncakestudios 🙂👍 I really liked how you were trying to find Mario music that wouldn’t get you copyrighted and ended up using music from Sonic Unleashed 😂 I’ve had use that exact same song in some of my videos too. I hope that the story lines in the Nintendo movies continue to get better from here on out. I would have loved to see more Luigi in the Mario movie too (he’s my favorite Mario character). A Luigi’s mansion spin off would be amazing 🤩. I hope you have an amazing day and God bless 🙏❤️

Idk if I’ve said this before but I’ve started comparing this to the first Iron Man movie. Looking back it’s not the greatest film but it was really successful and helped kickstart the massive film series.(Let’s just hope Nintendo doesn’t follow Marvel and their next movie is compared to Hulk)

Yes, they are similar, but four tones of a minor scale in whole notes ascending from the root is such an obvious choice for building tension in music that two pieces of music that share this quality I'd hardly think would be worth commenting on.
@bryede16 күн бұрын
Agreed. I bet you could find dozens, if not hundreds, of times this has been used. It's just too simple and hopefully you'd need other similarities to claim copyright.

@Zoova27 күн бұрын
5:23 _No_ *Crisis City:* C, D, Eb, F *Koopa's Road:* AD, BE, CF, DG with DA throughout in the bass. They're not even the same notes. Also... Crisis city uses single notes with octaves. Koopa's Road uses chordioids + dissonance. These are just partial scales, or stepwise motion. It's very common. You do need to be a music student apparently.

Sure! (This was done in Google translate)

Sonic's whole reason for existence was just to rival Nintendo. So if this was true, I wouldn't be surprised. Lol Seems like for the short amount of time in the song though, it wouldn't warrant plagiarism, so it's fine I'm sure.

definitely an interesting similarity, but intention stealing? Nah. Nobody owns chord progressions. As a VGM composer myself, it's very easy to subconsciously write something that has some similar melodies or chords to things that already exist without realizing. Especially within the same genre of VGM music, we all influence each other, but we shouldn't be too scared of small similarities if the songs are different enough to stand on their own. Lots of times I write songs and think.... "man... where have I heard that melody before?" and then realize it's from a song I already wrote, myself. And at that point I'm like "Well, that's fine. I'm sure people will just assume it's an intentional callback."
