Nice video. Full of good info. New door kits are nearly $1,000.00 by the time they're shipped to you. I'm sure I can save $750.00 and do it myself.

You should put rubber straps on the cracks in the outside door, to stop some of the air or rain coming in. Love your vids.

Omg STOP! Job done WRONG! CAUTION! That's not an axle nut that you torqued down to hold the brake rotor on it's a wheel bearing adjustment but and cotter pin. Immediately stop driving and loosen those nuts. You never leave them torqued down or they will be over tightened heat up seize and fail causing the wheel to lock up while driving! Please find out how to adjust a wheel bearing before you tell other people to do this incorrectly and UNSAFELY and wrong! The wheel bearing adjustment nut only gets torqued down as you rotate the rotor to fully seat the wheel bearings. After they are fully seated you are to loosen the nut and then tighten it by hand without a wrench. Insert the cotter pin into the nearest hole. Do not tighten this nut as the wheel bearings are not designed to have preload on them (being tightened). They are designed to have a few thousands of an inch of play in them. If you don't understand that consult a service manual for the vehicle you are working on or hey manual that shows how to adjust a wheel bearing. This video should be taken down or edited because you obviously have no understanding and did it completely wrong causing an condition that others will duplicate.

I watched this back when you first posted it but found myself recently looking for Stepvan vids (that’s my kink). Some observations that I have- I always count the threads on a castle nut before I remove them and sometimes scribe a mark to remember the position of the flats that way I can see if I went far enough on reinstallation. The bare minimum is it will be the way I removed it jic the previous work was also done incorrectly. Also, when driving, the right side wheel is moving clockwise, if the castle nut were to spin (say if the Cotter pin was not in it), the nut shouldn’t loosen by spinning backwards CCW (lefty loosey righty tighty). And, the Cotter pin hole wouldn’t line up I would think if you hadn’t tightened it enough. I’ve seen wheels that were really loose from being installed incorrectly or really worn out bearings but your wheel failure was really extreme. Of course, you own the mistake if your the last one to touch it. That’s usually how it goes… I’m glad you were okay and everything got resolved. Wondering if you still have the Stepvan? Later!

I know this is 6yr. Old….looks cool! I’ve been working on my shop doors… base color is copper, painted faux black straps, and faux rivets on top of the straps. Also added a scalloped black iron valance at the top of the door which looks like upside down iron crosses centered within the valance. Then I did an oxidation of patina in various places. I am part way through the second RV door. I am also redoing a very comfortable ugly chair which I’m thinking of trying your technique on the back. I’m not to worried if it doesn’t turn out as it’s just a shop chair that my dogs and everyone else likes to sit in because it’s super compfy.

My big question with this rig is parking. Who do you handle parking at work? Or parking at a Trader Joes or some place with cramped parking. How do you handle parking at an apartment being used as a home base. What are the implications for attempting to stealth park or even park at an apartment you live in? The concept looks intreaging but I am imagining it drawing too much unwanted attention in cities and too many parking places it would be unable to go. Perhaps one of your Sylvan Secrets you could share is a spell that makes an old huge van seem perfectly legit and totally not worth calling the cops to move.
@SylvanSecrets
@SylvanSecrets Жыл бұрын
If stealth is the primary concern, then this setup is definitely too big. I only ever got asked to move once. No one ever had an issue at work, but I was very open about it. Folks thought it was cool. Parking is an issue, but I'm not a traveller. Mostly I rented a driveway from a friend. I can't imagine being able to do that with some sort of apartment setup. I did get a couple tickets in Vancouver for overnight oversized parking. Mostly the type of vehicle you choose comes down to where you park it, how long, and what your goals are around stealth.
