what is the benefit of buying the G500 addon over the stock G1000? There is an addon aircraft I want to buy and it says it has the G500 in it but has to be purchased to use with the aircraft.
@virtualgeneralaviation
@virtualgeneralaviation 10 ай бұрын
That's a good question. There are various reasons one might buy the G500 add-on. For me, it was the diversity of flying with a different avionics suite. However, the main reason, IMO, is that many sim pilots are also real-world pilots. If I had a G500 in my real-world aircraft, I'd certainly want one in my sim. I can't imagine that the G500 is required in the aircraft you're interested in. The G500 is usually an option. Double check. I'm reasonably sure the airplane comes with a built-in avionics suite: Analog gauges or the G1000.

@@virtualgeneralaviation that's a good point. This aircraft does have 2 variants, the steam gauges and the G500.

I understand why you named it a “POOP-SHOW”, but I think it is a great example of a pilot troubleshooting multiple problems under pressure. I could hear the stress in your voice (even a choice word or two) and it was a great example of the “fight or flight response”. I know you didn’t have much flight time in the King Air 350, but any aircraft system(s) could fail and an experienced pilot could be facing the same type of issues. I appreciate you talking us through your own check list as you were working keeping the plane flying. I sure one of those “spit and polished” creators would have thrown this one in the bit bucket. I am glad you uploaded this video as I learn and remember more from close calls then a perfect flight. Thanks for doing what you do.

Back in the days when I worked on KC135 aircraft and we had to do a compass swing, we had to note the current magnetic deviation for our surveyed swing location. So the runways compass heading have to be updated.

Hi frank , i purchased X - Plane 12 Mu-2 and I can control the throttles and reverse with my mouse, due to I'm using an old joy stick for now. It works ok for me because at take-off, just set the throttles at 95% Torque and just leave it until you are ready to adjust the speed for landing. Landing is challenging using the mouse, but I can get full reverse.

Hi Ron. I enjoy reading your comments. Anyhoo, I have had a different experience with X-Aviation aircraft. I get prompted for my email and S/N only when I add or update an aircraft. I've been hanging out (in the forums) with the guys at X-Aviation, and I can tell you they work hard to ensure their airplanes provide a higher level of immersion than some. They are a great bunch of guys, BTW. Also, a new version of the software that prompts for credentials is in beta and, I think it is more airplane specific.

Hi Ron, No, I haven't tried the Caravan in XP12, yet. However, I flew the C206 today. Partly, because you'd commented on how well it flies. I really enjoyed flying the 206, and I believe it's fully supported in XP12. Most of my aircraft from XP11 can be flown in XP12. However, Laminar Research (LR) changed quite a bit of the underlying code in XP12. These changes, as I understand it, have quite an effort on stuff like engine power - either too much power or too little - among other stuff. The planes will fly but perhaps not as close to their real-life counterparts like they did in XP11. ( I watched all two hours of Hotstart chasing down the errors, in XP12 for the TBM 900, in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKuTh6mcmt-Bp9U) Now that XP12 is stable, I plan to make publish a bunch of videos flying everything from the Skyhawk C172 to the Challenger C650. I should be able to publish a video on the Citation X in a day or so. I plan to wait for the XP12 updates before I fly my old favorites from XP11. Thanks for asking about the Caravan.

Thank you for sharing your video. This is my first time trying to fly a jet, only done GA. Your check list has been invaluable to me. I think LR has dropped the ball on documentation for this fine aircraft. If it wasn't for folk's like you on KZbin I would have just gave up. Do you know why the plane lost thrust. I noticed it looked like there was no oxygen pressure on the gauge but I don't think that would have caused the engine's not to have thrust, not sure, still learning. Thanks again

Jeff, I'm happy the checklist is helping. I've found that there are many planes that I can't start without a checklist. The X does auto-start using Ctlr-E. I mistakenly referred to the environmental PACs as bleed-air in the video. The bleed-air is on the APU. I too, fly GA aircraft 100% and am recently working my way into business jets. Anyhoo, the X is a blast to fly. I really hope the community will begin modding this aircraft. I'd love to see 95% of the systems emulated, if not 100%. Stay safe and blue skies.

Aviation is switching to glass panels before our eyes. I purchased a 32" monitor (up from my 27" monitor) and still glass isn't as easy as the steam gauges. Nevertheless, I'm hoping to create new muscle memory for finding things. As for the Kodiak, I never did fly it much because of the glass panels. Now that I'm becoming accustomed to glass I'll have to revisit it. When I first started simming I purchased a bunch of Carenado aircraft. As I became more involved in simming I realized most of Carenado's aircraft lack system depth. Therefore I (personally) refuse to buy anything by Carenado. While their aircraft is aesthetically beautiful, they refuse to circle back to fix broken system or offer real updates. I can do another video in the Kodiak if you like. Just let me know. A lot to grasp with the glass and Pilot Edge. With the heat from the challenges you faced, the heat will make you stronger. I noticed the pilot door was vibrating. The Airfoil C172 without the glass causes failures to happen too often for me. I like some immersion but I want to enjoy the flight more then troubleshooting. I went through an episode of aircraft shutting down in flight, no matter what airplane I I was flying. The red warning light for battery was on. The start witch was stuck on and I couldn't turn it off with the mouse. It took a while to notice the start switch on my Logitech panel was on. All problems resolved finally. You go through a lot of real life detail to fly. Immersion!!

Yep! I opened the pilot door to keep the aircraft from fogging up and forgot to close it. I finally closed it at 5500 feet somewhere before the Fellows VOR (LOL). That's an error that would have been immediately obvious in real life. ATC has always been a challenge for me. I tend to ponder what was said too much. I'm a poor listener and I tend to ponder too much on what I'm going to say - fearing that it won't come out right. That, in itself, makes me nervous when I speaking, sometimes. I do love PilotEdge.
