Considering instagram, I have chosen to not use it anymore. That was literally my escape strategy and it worked well so far. 😅 Now I also started KZbining and making photobooks each year . But the books are only for my family and honestly the 3 likes I get once a year are much better, because the kids regularly pick up the books of the last years and get into memories of the experiences we shared. ❤

This is why the 24-105mm f4 sony G lens is a masterpiece, but i do like f1.4 just for certain low light conditions.

really like your vids... quick bit of friendly advice... its best not to close the F100 back like that! (Unless you have already replace the latches). The original plastic ones are prone to weakening and eventually breaking over time, so its best to hold the door release button, close the back gently and then release the button again which ensuure less of a "snap in" and it puts less strain on them.
@maxkentКүн бұрын
Hey! Thanks! Yeah, I already knew about this but I guess I’m just a bit lax sometimes! Usually I press the release though just to make sure it’s not wearing it down!

Yeah I use the Sony A7 IV for video! It’s good enough for sure. Doesn’t have the best stabilisation though. You’d need a gimbal to make it really stable but I don’t have the time for that!

You are one of my favorite photography KZbinrs. I think I'm lucky because of circumstances, I've stayed with one camera brand - Pentax. So I haven't really looked for other brands for a "better" camera or more gear/kit. I inherited a K1000 from my mom after she passed away. I began taking pictures with it during COVID. Photography was something I could do alone and also get me out of the house. Because I have the typical monetary chains of the middle-class (home mortgage, car payment, wife, kids, etc...) I can't justify to myself buying more or new gear when I know and enjoy what I currently have.
@maxkent2 күн бұрын
Hey Brian! Thanks a lot dude, that’s really nice. I really love the Pentax K1000 too and it’s really sweet that you’re now using your moms old one! Keep it up dude and keep enjoying yourself 💪

I agree specifically with number 1. When I focus on how good my photo should look it doesn’t come out the best. But when I’m just focusing on what to take a photo of, not giving attention on focusing, I get better results and take more pride in it. Thanks for this video, I need to practice more in the art instead of focusing.

I always stop down to f4 - f5.6. worked for years
@Traditiononamission4 күн бұрын
It depends on what you’re shooting. When shooting sports, a shallow depth of field (f3.5 or f4) can really help give the subject separation, since it is very difficult to actually control the background if you can at all. Just an example. Also, for close headshots I usually use a longer portrait lens at f2.8… absolutely trying to obliterate the background because it’s not an environmental portrait.
@axplade28994 күн бұрын
You know I kinda laughed when people questioned me why do I stop down the aperature so much. Shallow depth of field doesn't always look good. Plus it's too hard to focus with it.

I've became a better photographer when I started to spend more money towards books and travel rather then gear. Now I prefer to have just one prime (usually 35 or 28) and one zoom lens. Book>Light>Gear. Subscribed!

I do have a lot of gear, but I don't think it makes me a better photographer. Your comparison with Formula 1 is like the famous series 'Pro photographer, cheap camera'. Those were wonderful.

@bentravis995 күн бұрын
Great video! I agree and notice that most people also use fast apertures to allow them to be lazy about their background choice.
@RS-Amsterdam5 күн бұрын
First of all, it's always good to retrospect your own work and be critical about it. But remember to shoot for yourself and not for others in the first place. Start showing you work to non photography related people and see how long they are focussed on each shot. Everything less than 2 seconds the shot is probably a bit boring, when they stick, then you are on the right track. Happy shooting

I mainly use 1.8 for low light so that my ISO doesn't sky rocket and the shallow depth of field is just a plus at that point
@joseerazevedo7 күн бұрын
Another way to create depth is distance to subject. On close portraits, you can shoot at f 8 and still have the background defocused. But most important is DOF is a tool and it must fit your image/visualization of that scene. Sometimes it asks for a shallow DOF, sometimes not. Thanks for the video and showing the work of Robbie Lawrence!

Put them on your walls. Lowest point of entry for me was making a wall calendar from the photos from the previous year, one per month taken on that month. When you see your photo after a year you will be pleasantly surprised. After the year is over you can cut the pictures off the calendar and pin them up, use them as bookmarks or anything.
