I made this soup! So good! Water, whole chicken, one chopped onion, green part of the leeks, bay leaf, fresh parsely, peppercorns into a large pot. Definitely falling off the bone by 1.5 hours. Strained the broth and added Better Than Bouillon to boost the chicken flavor of the broth. Next hour, simmer broth plus white part of leeks, sliced carrots, sliced celery, whole thyme sprigs, 1 cup medium barley, about 7 prunes cut into quarters. Separated the chicken while the broth simmered. Added chicken when I finished removing it from the bone, about 30 minutes. The barley and prunes make this soup unique, so don't skip them. Love to Scotland from the US, and yes, I tried this recipe to honor my Scottish ancestors.

Haven’t lived in Scotland for 40 ears and still miss the bread. Tried this recipe and they’re delicious. Couldn’t find rice flour so used cornflour. The lard makes the difference. Delicious. Thanks for the video.

Exactly the recipe I learned from my grandmother and mother!!!! The most delicious recipe and has become a great favourite with my friends here in France 👍🏴👍. (I ‘cheat’ a bit as I use my electric whisk at the beating stage 😘)

That looks as sticky as my thin crust pizza dough. With that I use a lot of evoo to keep the dough from sticking to me and to spread it out evenly. I guess that I not an option for these buns. I will have to give these a try - I'm a sucker for a good sandwich bun. BTW, would love to see what's attached to that wagging tail.

What's the difference between a lentil and a chickpea? I didn't pay fifty euros to have a lentil all over me.

Hey thanks for the video. Here in Florida the trap isn't as cold as yours, but I still love the warm water for doing dishes, its so much better in my opinion. I know it rinses everything cleaner. cheers.

I enjoyed watching, seems simple and straightforward. I’ll give it a go. I have used plastic gloves as a last resort when I last had too sticky flour. Not a sustainable option I know . Thankyou for sharing , those rolls look lovely 👌🏼

The best way to wash the leeks for dirt is to cut the leeks half way through, and THEN wash them under running water, and not cut them up, and then wash them in a wash tub. You cannot be sure that you have managed to get all the dirt out after the wash-tub-method that is presented in this video. Maybe it looks nice with whole rings of leek in the soup, but I prefer no dirt from the very beginning of the preparation of ingridients for the soup.
