I bought some but havent used yet as they are fairly thick. I have a high arch AND a high instep, and wide front of feet even though I’m a size 8. So I really struggle getting a good boot fit. Years and years ago I have 32 Lashed with a custom footbed. They were so comfy and could wear them all day with no issues at all. Had a few seasons off after having a child then ‘treated’ myself to new boots, many new boots. Including 32Lashed with various lacing systems but none of them fit the same. Long story I won’t bore you any more. I might try my remind insoles but lace my boots a bit looser round the foot.

How do you think it compares to the Rome Ravine? I’m looking for an all-mountain powder board for Japan. I can only carry one board, so it still needs to be able to ride the whole mountain on non-powder days. Thanks.
@snowboardingdays
@snowboardingdays 2 күн бұрын
What time of year are you heading to Japan? If it's Jan/Feb, I'd personally be taking a more powder orientated board as powder performance would be more important to me than groomer performance (which the Archetype actually does very well also). The Ravine is a great board, but isn't the best option for deep Japow days. To be honest, if you're planning on chasing a lot of backcountry powder, I'd be looking at more volume-shifted options. As you probably know, Japan is relatively low gradient and low altitude. Short-fats generally handle this better - though you'll sacrifice carving and groomer performance for sure. If I could only take one board to Japan in peak season, I'd be taking something like The Burton Fish, Rossignol Sashimi (or Sushi), Jones Storm Chaser etc. However... most of those will certainly struggle with freestyle or towards the tail end of the season.
@vanw1554
@vanw1554 2 күн бұрын
@@snowboardingdays Thanks for the detailed reply, I really appreciate it. Yes I’m planning to stay there during the peak powder season in late January. However I’m just an intermediate rider who is starting to learn how to ride in powder. I’m planning to explore the off-piste areas within the resort and won’t be venturing into backcountry storm chasing. So I think a short fat board might be too much for me, and I might not be able to handle it. Therefore, I’m looking for something in between, like the Archetype or Ravine. Between these two, which one do you think is more powder oriented? Thanks again!

Why wouldn't you use step on x as a daily driver? I was thinking about buying capita super doa or never summer proto ultra. What bindings would you recommend?
@snowboardingdays
@snowboardingdays 3 күн бұрын
Hi - to be honest, it depends on what your daily driver board is. The Super DOA does pair super nicely with the step on x - a great combo for sure. I ride quite a lot of park, including jibs... usually on softer decks like the Bataleon Disaster. The step on x is little bit overkill for that situation - doable - but I like a little more flex. If you're more towards the all-mountain freeride end of the "all mountain spectrum" then you'll be completely fine on the Step on X 🫡

@@snowboardingdays Thank you for the answer! Honestly I want to buy everything new for this season. New board, new bindings, new boots! I like riding fast on wide groomers. Carving, switch, side hits. I don't know why but I often see comments like "step ons are for loosers, I would never buy this", but other people say that they are game changing and very responsive. I think that Capita Super DOA, Step on X and Step on Ion boots would make a perfect combo for me, but I'm also considering Burton Cartel X Reflex Bindings and Ion Boa boots. Anyways it will be pretty expensive setup ...

One thing to note on the remedy is they don’t have the felt on the top and it’s just the bare rubber where your foot sits on. So I found sliding your foot into the boot difficult as your foot/sock grabs the rubber and doesn’t slide easily compared to the other models with the felt top. If that makes sense.

Hi, I am 186cm tall, 95 kg and I have a shoe of EUR 48. Which Warpig board should I take, L or XL. What do you recommend? I currently ride a 164w all mountain board. Thanks.....
@snowboardingdays
@snowboardingdays 17 күн бұрын
Hi mate, Ride advise 6-10cm shorter than your normal all mountain size. So as you say, you could go with either. Personally I’d be going with the Large - these boards are designed to be ridden short and wide, so I’d rather take advantage of that and experience the board as it was intended. I oversized when I first tried this and it felt waaay too wide and heavy. You’re also comfortably within the weight range for it. That being said, if you lean more into all-mountain freeride than all-mountain freestyle, then the XL might be better. On the L, you will certainly notice how much edge you’ve lost - if your priority is hard carving and bombing at speed, the XL would be better. However if you want a fun all-rounder which is snappier and spinner, (and has the novelty factor), then the L is a good call.

Great review, and I concur and want to support a 2 board quiver. As mentioned, this board and twins are not powder boards, but you sure can set the stance back and lean back to get by in a few feet of powered, and 1ft or less, I don't even bother with setting the stance back, works fine centered. This is a perfect board for So Cal. It's rare to get enough powder that you require a powder specific board. A solid twin like this that can handle speed & power is an excellent choice for the smaller resorts and parks. Paired with a powder specific board is a great combo, and my personal quiver. Why try to get a do-it all board that's ok at everything and sucks in some scenarios, when you can have 2 boards that excel at what they do and better fit your riding style. If you can afford it, a 2 board quiver is the way to go, even with 1 pair of shared bindings, and definitely wax / tune your own equipment. It's super easy and saves $. You'd be shocked what a home hot wax job can do for your board. Need an iron, all temp wax, wax scraper, brass brush, nylon brush. and a file for your edges. Boom, done. Happy Shredding!
@snowboardingdays
@snowboardingdays 17 күн бұрын
@@adamharrington6888 thanks Adam, much appreciated. Some great insights there! Completely agree on the two board quiver - I spent waaay too many seasons in (futile) pursuit of a board that can legitimately excel in everything. It wasn’t until I visited the depths of Japan that I realised the merits of a dedicated powder board. It is a slippery slope though, my “two board quiver” is looking suspiciously like a six board one 😂

I must say. I'm a Step-on X rider (snowboarding since 1988)and thought that there'd be yet another of those Step-ons bashing videos that many biased riders have been making. However - this was an actual, well backed criticism about an obvious and clear fail in design. That would be easily recommended by rounding the top part of the hammock over the highback top and making the heel cleat entry channel higher and wider. A good take on a real design issue. I hope you've contacted B regarding this?

@snowboardingdays
@snowboardingdays 2 күн бұрын
Hey - sorry for the delay. Not always, but sometimes yeah. I think the clip engages but then pushes even further down with extra pressure. There are two "catch points" so that if the first one slips, your boots still stay locked down. I think the noise is just the second catch point engaging. I usually make sure to give my foot some decent pressure and a "test wiggle" before setting off anyway - same as with the burton step ons.

@snowboardingdays
@snowboardingdays 3 ай бұрын
No problem! Where are you headed in Japan? and what time of the season? As you probably know, most resorts have tonnes of low gradient tree lines - which I have tended to find worked better with super volume-shifted short fattys. In the lower sections of Niseko for example, I loved the Rossignol Sushi, but if you're hiking the peaks and more open sections too, the Burton Fish (or Sashimi if we're talking about Rossignol) was more versatile. If you're going in peak powder season (January-Feb) then I'd personally be pretty comfortable taking a super powder focused board like the Fish. If you're going a little later on, then the Ride PS may be better - as it'll give you more versatility on non-powder days, and is way better for carving up groomers etc. If I'm travelling for a short trip (rather than board testing), I now tend to bring an all-mountain board for groomer/park laps during periods without powder, and a super powder focused board. If I can only bring one, it would be the powder option. Ultimately I go to Japan for the powder, so I'll happily sacrifice versatility whilst waiting for those all-time powder days.
