Floorpans are looking great! I am curious about the suspension. You mention you are getting close to putting it on and getting Stitches off the rotisserie. I was wondering if you are going stock with the suspension, or if you have plans to do something special. What is stock for this car? Leaf springs?. Are you putting in any sort of anti-sway bar? I am also curious about the brakes. Drum? Disk? Both? It will be very educational to see how all of those esencial bits are put back in, and how they act in the performance of the finished vehicle. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Until next time. Make it Safe, Make it Done, 👨🔧&🚘 Go Have Fun❣ Stay warm, safe, and healthy. 🤟RAWK!

Pretty much all back to stock except I’m putting front disc brakes on it. Nothing fancy on this car. It’s just a driver.

Looks good Mike. I have been thinking of getting a plasma cutter

I don’t use mine a lot in recent years, but when I first purchased it in the Mid90s, I use the heck out of it. Particularly for building the GTS.

Newbie question - why do you need eye protection when welding but not when using the plasma cutter? Aren't both processes melting metal? Thank you for the work you do on these cars! RAWK!!
@faroironandcustoms65776 күн бұрын
Mike can answer this in his way. Welding produces UV light and usually you need to wear a shield. You see some guys (especially with cut-n-butt or laying tacks) close their eyes or look away rather than constantly raising the shield. Plasma doesn't produce rays in the spectrum that welding does. I still will usually throw on a pair of sunglasses or you could set your welding hood to a low enough setting to protect your eyes. If you notice in Mike's video, he was dragging the torch close enough to the metal that the flame was shooting out the bottom and the sheet metal was acting as a shield of most of the light. It comes down to experience and what you are comfortable with. I will say I have been in the ER enough with flash burns to my eyes and having metal dug out of an eye that I try to be as safe as possible, and that is what I would recommend to anyone getting into cutting and welding. RAWK!!!
@markparker57886 күн бұрын
@faroironandcustoms6577 Excellent and thorough reply! Thank you for the education. 🤘
@MyKARSShop5 күн бұрын
I believe Michael answered this in detail. The only other thing I would add is that the bulk of the flame is actually under the metal when plasma cutting versus on top of the metal and welding.
@randybrennan77756 күн бұрын
I was wondering how you were going to do that. Looks good.

As others have said, abrasives! Whether sandpaper, Scotch Brite, sanding disk, or grinding wheels and cutting disks, you will go through them rather quickly, and you can always use a good selection of grits. Also, as mentioned, gloves, masks, and rags or towels. I would also add earplugs and safety glasses depending on if you have high quality ones or the cheap disposable type. Another consumable you didn't mention is welding rod for your welder. With a project like Stitches I am sure you are going through that rather quickly. Body filler is another, at least when doing body work. If your shop has any sort of clean air system filters and bags for it would also be an item. If you are doing a lot of your own wiring, any and all of the items needed for that. Different gauges of wire in different colors. Contacts and connectors of all types, spade terminals and ring terminals and splice connectors, as well as the zip ties you mentioned and some rolls of electrical tape. Ah, yes, tape! Painters tape, duct tape, thread tape, double sided adhesive tape. You can never have enough. As you mentioned a few episodes ago a paint for marking areas of the car that still need work. They sell a marking pen similar to a Sharpie, that you can mark metal with. The type they use in scrap yards to write on cars and parts. Rolls of plastic or paper for covering areas of the car you don't want painted. Rolls of fabric, vinyl, or leather for upholstery and headliners and door panels. Sound deadening for the floorboards. And for the finished car, wax, and other protectants for leather, vinyl, and rubber to keep them from deteriorating, and fading in the sun. On the not consumables list, I would say one of those portable battery chargers and tire inflators that you can have in your vehicle for emergencies. Better than jumper cables. Some also work as a work light, emergency flasher, and allow you to charge your phone. A great product for your car emergency kit. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Until next time. Make it Safe, Make it Done, 👨🔧&🚘 Go Have Fun❣ Stay warm, safe, and healthy. 🤟RAWK!

Gotta love all these calculations and they are probably good for a starting point but there are too many variables. A stock 350 sbc might only need a 600 cfm carb, start adding better intake, heads, and most importantly cam lift and duration, and you are going to need a bigger carb. There's a lot of carb tuning involved with any sized carb so saying I ran a 750 then replaced it with a 650 and it ran better doesn't really mean much. It only means something if both carbs were really optimized. If you can somehow get to a dragstrip you can actually do some real world testing and find out what works best. I happen to run a 750 Holley double pumper with a 50cc front pumper on a 1968 Camaro 383 sbc chevy engine, automatic with a Vega converter (about 3k stall) 2.05 heads and 538 lift cam - car runs mid 11's (11.62 best so far in 1/4 mile). I wouldn't hesitate to try an 800 cfm and see if it's better after going through some tuning on it. It's the only way I'll truly know.

I like the Northern Tools gray gloves with rubber palms. They’re not something that’s going to protect your hands a lot, but they’ll give a little protection of the ole digits. Another bonus is they’re great in the garden (though after a bunch of compost and manure you’ll not enjoy the smell). Another are the $1 scissors at Harbor Freight. I like those for cutting sandpaper and gasket material. Thanks for the present ideas, and have a great Christmas!

Question for you Mike. If you don't have a sand blaster is a wire wheel an acceptable alternative for cleaning spark plugs? I seem to remember my Dad doing that a few times when he didn't just buy new ones. Do you need to re-gap them after cleaning? Until next time. A plug fowls down in the barrel and the porcelain gets coated with carbon and shorts out to the case. So a wire brush is not likely to do the job.

I never used the choke on my Chevy (600 Holley) it would flood the hell out of it on the coldest day. I've never had one with an electric choke so I can't comment. The old mechanics said #2 is the cold cylinder on a Chevy. Cold water circulates around #2 before the thermostat opens and the cylinder wears more than the rest of the cylinders. It doesn't look like you have a heater so I don't think it can on your car. 2,8,3,and5 run off of the same side of the carb but I think 2 would be closest to the right-side front of the carb. So, the mixture might be a little rich on the right side. I seriously have looked at going away from Holley on some of my projects. (I can't believe I'm saying this.) On a stock Chevy I'd rather have a good Q-jet than a truckload of Holleys. LOL!!! RAWK!!

I actually did my senior thesis for my power tech minor on hot rodding Quadrajet carburetors when I was in college. 😂😂 I love quad jets. They’re great carbs. You can’t beat a good old on-demand air door carburetor.

@@MyKARSShop I had one on my 400 big block way back in the day, Bent the pushrods on cylinder 3 in the figure 8 one night. Never could get the thermo quad right before I switched to the Q-Jet. Wish I still had that engine.
