Giorza was one of the composers listed in the infamous 1922 'Black List' whose compositions were deemed as unfit to be sung in Catholic churches and it isn't hard to see why.

No denying that a disturbingly large part of the Anglo Catholic group is like that, we had a “mother” once who was also very big on “inclusive orthodoxy” but if they’re under a flying bishop they’re usually good and orthodox

@maximilliancamilleri7907 Жыл бұрын
@@iainclark5964 actually I do, England is an Anglican nation and ever since King Henry VIII split from the Catholic Church after the pope refusing to divorce him with Catherine of Aragon, England afterwards had always been weary of the Catholic Church and even labelled it as the Popish faith 😊. For centuries there would be religious wars with the Spanish as England became a Protestant nation. During the reign of Oliver Cromwell this weariness against the papacy only increased as the puritans hated everything about the ‘Popish faith’. The only time England was officially ruled by a Catholic sovereign after this was during the reign of King James II who was chased of the throne by his Protestant son in law, William of Orange and since then England remained a firmly Anglican nation.

A thoroughly rotten acoustic in this church, so any organ would be wasted in this space.

@@SimonSimon-rn3tm When you say ‘rotten acoustic’ I assume you mean a dry acoustic. It can be argued it feels a very dry acoustic when the church is full. However, when the church is empty or up to half full, I would have to disagree with you. It is hardly a cavernous church, so will never have a great 8-second reverberation, but ‘rotten’ it isn’t. I’ve experienced far drier acoustics than at St. Magnus and I would imagine you have too.
@johneady16485 ай бұрын
I would also challenge your idea that ‘any organ would be wasted in this space’. If you are criticising the organ, and there are certainly some reasons to do so, you should at least acknowledge the fact that there are some very fine ranks within this instrument. If you really think any organ would be wasted in this space, you perhaps ought to reflect on the primary purpose of an organ in a church. It’s not just there to make a nice noise, it’s there to support the worship. And it is down to the craft of an organ-builder to make their instrument sound good in any building, and believe me, there are worse spaces to have an organ than St. Magnus by a country mile! If you demand an acoustic like that at St. Paul’s everywhere you go, I’m afraid you’ll be sorely disappointed most of the time!

Riveting commentary. And John, your English Accent sounds so intelligent and posh to us Americans. Did you write and prepare the script too?
@johneady16484 ай бұрын
Thanks Elaine! Yes, I did write and prepare the script. A lot of material failed to make the final cut for the church’s website requirements. Also, we sadly had a very short amount of time to record. The musical clips I had prepared were dropped as they were deemed too long in the recording session so the music was either improvised or decided upon only moments before recording.

This is a stunningly beautiful Church, I have visited it- I really like it. The ceremony of it and your liturgy is beautiful. However I am shocked to have just seen a video of a Gay marriage ceremony conducted in this supposedly most "Catholic" of Churches. That is shameful, how dare you claim to have Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament and then insult him in such a manner.
