I had never seen some of the Miami tv coverage. I did 6+ years on her and knew all those sailors. Such a terrible outcome for so many. Thanks for the vid.

Sadly the age of these large big gun ships ended decades ago. To build a modern battleship like NJ would cost billions in development and let alone testing and building. Being that the Navy or any navy hasn't built a battleship since WW2, they would have to rebuild facilities to build and assemble the components of a ship like this let alone research how to make these ships fit into a modern battlefield. Sadly we have not found a replacement for shore bombardment troop support, we haven't fought a major war requiring such yet but we may need something like this. Sadly if the Navy ever makes a new battleship, I'll be an old man or long dead by the time that happens.

If only they would drydock and fix the hull of the USS Olympia across the river. A tiny vessel in comparison but even more important than the USS New Jersey.

They need to. Sadly just like any major project for a museum it's going to take millions to do and to make repairs.

the slow version as they pass the US United States feels so sad, considering what a record that particular ship holds from both the war and its civilian life as a cruise chip

Wow one of those dancers is Dianne Buswell. Been on strictly come dancing for the last eight years. The world's biggest dance show. On the 2018 show she partnered with Joe sugg a famous KZbinr. She's still doing strictly and has her own successful KZbin, tick-tock and Instagram channels.... lovely woman.

We sailed her three times, such a lovely ship. It was a total shame to lose a beautiful ship like this. I wasn't a fan of the extra decks, the money could have been used where it could have counted the most, an upgrade to the engine room.

I landed on the Big E March of 68 on the COD flight from Subic Bay. Stationed there till May l969 and crossed decks to USS Kearsarge attached to VAW 111 for brother duty. Also attended the decommisioning ceremony Dec 2012, great and solemn memories.

First of her kind, she was in a class by herself. She was magnificent. She carried me through 2 hurricanes - Typhoons they call them over there. WESPAC 74-75, she was CVAN in those days. That ship would routinely outrun her escorts.

Watching a lot of videos on the Enterprise and my other ship (USS America). I was last on the Enterprise over 30 years ago. Really tugs at me, not sure why. Probably just looking back at youth. 9:06 is a shot of my shop. Forward hanger bay, MILVAN boxes with the aviation test equipment and benches in them, hanging from the ceiling and catwalk attached to them. Mine was the middle one, it had a winch to get the electronics boxes (about 150 pounds each) up and down from the hanger deck. The AIMD on the canvas stands for Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department. O level (operations) troubleshot and pulled boxes from the planes. I level (intermediate) troubleshot and fixed the boxes in aviation electronics shops throughout the ship. Middle of the Indian Ocean in '88 we were very thankful to be in spaces that required great air conditioning for the test equipment. The O level guys roasted on the flight deck. Our squadron O level guys would always find reasons to have to come visit us :)

This is one of the WARNER BROS. LICENCED "TOUR CARS" that were brought to car and air shows all over NORTH AMERICA. This particle car has the CANDY BLUE and CANDY BURGUNDY PAINT mixed INTO the BLACK. You can clearly see it in the close up's. I have been up to this car in person. I believe it may be the ONLY ONE with this paint job.

There are many books you can find on the ship as well as online documentaries about her as well. Thank you so much for the compliments, it took many hours to make this series of videos as well as a ton of online hunting and I picked the right choice of music as well. I cried during the editing process of this video because of the subject matter. It truly was a crime this ship had to be destroyed the way it did.

I was stationed aboard a destroyer from mid-80’s to late 80’s as an STG2. Seeing the quarterdeck watch brought back a bunch of memories as Messenger and then as POW. Many cold nights and really hot days standing there, granting permission to depart or come aboard. I wish that I hadn’t switched to the Army…chow was much better in the Navy..and while in the Navy we never thought of our food as being ‘good’, it nourished us and that’s it. After 17 years of MRE’s, I developed a strong desire for midrats. 🫡🤙 BZ
