I'm glad that someone finally spoke on the representation problems you mentioned in the video. 💛 In a game with only two Black characters, it's very yikes that Demarcus is seen so negatively. It definitely impacts him more than the White parents, and is just more evidence that Black characters have to try harder to be likeable because some people won't like them based on their appearance alone, so being highly flawed on top of it just gives them "justification."

The irony that I got this comment hours after one of my students grabbed my afro today...I'd like to add that if you're in a country where you're teaching kids your language, it's really helpful to have a member of staff back you up in the child's primary language. In South Korea, a lot of coworkers stood up for me or translated what I had said, but so far, in Japan, my Japanese coworkers just stand there or act like it's not happening when it should really be a teachable moment to get involved in... Anyway, I hope you have many pleasant experiences wherever you are!

In Japan, you own your own visa unlike in Korea. If you're young and want to teach in Asia, go to Taiwan. I work at a university in Korea, so not easy to leave. I prefer Taiwan. If I had a comparable offer in Taiwan, I would leave.

I worked in Japan teaching English 25 years ago when wages were extremely high. Back then they didn't even hire black people. Now they hire everybody but they only pay minimum wage I wouldn't recommend teaching over there to anyone. I did a video on it.

I worked in Chiba last year and they were trying to hide the fact that they were paying me the same as someone who had just graduated! I'm studying hard now so that I can make that leap out of education otherwise my salary will never substantially increase 😩💨
@CHASE888885 ай бұрын
In the early 90s late 80s they use to pay people as much as doctors a lot of Australians and New Zealand used to buy a house every three months now I really don’t understand why people teach English here because as soon as you start you plateau, there is a glass ceiling or like a concrete ceiling you will never get ahead. You’ll never get a raise, my advice go home get a different degree because your experience here will never get you a job at home and the life in Japan or Korea isn’t that good but because of the image people think it’s great you also don’t have any of the protections you would expect these countries are paid for local people by the time you figured out you’re not getting ahead it’s almost too late to move or change
@CHASE888885 ай бұрын
Honestly, if you think about it, they wouldn’t have paid you much more even if they did pay you more English teaching is more about personality no matter how good you are. It’s all about how the students like you that’s way more important than your skills. It’s really about entertaining the students, but making it look like you’re teaching. When I first started the better looking you were and the more the students giggled. The better teacher you were it didn’t matter where you graduated to a certain degree. It’s still like that.
@deeyandra5 ай бұрын
@CHASE88888 I started to realise this, unfortunately :( Perhaps that's why a lot of people who don't really enjoy teaching stay in it because it's so much effort to try something different. I told myself that I want to try and make a career change in my 30s and if I fail, I know I have teaching (which I do genuinely enjoy) to fall back on 👍🏾
@CHASE888885 ай бұрын
@@deeyandra I’ll tell you something about Japan no foreigners in Japan have ever achieved the Japanese dream like foreigners who go to America and become millionaires and billionaires you might see them start a business, but it’s always a small business. They never get beyond that you might see them on TV. They’ll never become international stars. Usually their salary is no more than twice. What an English teacher makes. I wish I had someone tell me this when I first got here if I were you, I would seriously give all this a lot of consideration. Japan look good to the outsider because they control their image very well they make you think you’re in a better place but in reality that’s not the case.

Also, do you have any stories about living in a shared house or any warnings? Idk if you've already done a video about it 😁
@deeyandra5 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed this ☺️ I wasn't in a good financial situation when I left Chiba so although the sharehouse was more expensive and not that pleasant in the long-term, I could move in about 2 days after I contacted the company and pay rent at an ATM! The apartment viewing was easy but the actual moving process took over a month. My employers usually organised accommodation for me, so having to contact the utilities company, security company, WiFi company all by myself in Japanese was a massive challenge that almost made me want to stay in the sharehouse...However, I'm paying almost ¥20,000 less a month for my own apartment, so moving out was the best long-term decision for me! ^^ Day 3 is coming out tomorrow afternoon JST - please look forward to it! 🥰❤️
@deeyandra5 ай бұрын
As for stories, the worst thing that has happened was walking in on someone who hadn't closed the toilet door~ 😳 Getting my own furniture was an investment, so it was good that the sharehouse already had everything I needed, even if it wasn't that great or clean
