Overall your 2 sermons were very good. I have listened to many many sermons on this passage and yours is one of the best. However, it is not about men looking like nen or women looking like women. It is about visibly displaying and proclaiming the order of creation of men and women with the aim of pointing to the order within the godhead. That is why it is for when the church is together praying and being taught the bible. It is for when we are comminicating together with God.

It cannot be about looking like a man or looking like a woman because a. one alternative is to cut off her hair to remove her glory b. It is to symbolise repudiating any self promotion, and not to look feminine.

Also he is notvsaying long hair on a man is sinful, but rather he is saying it is unflattering and generally (nature) is not a good look. Paul would have known this for he had long hair via his nazarite vow when at Corinth of all places.

Point 4 cultural? The key is the link of 1 cor 8v6 to this passage. What has changed since eve and the old testament times is Christ and His revealing of the Father and his relationship to the Father. Head covering is teaching about the eternal submission of the Son to the Father. This is appropriate to do since this order in the godhead was the pattern on which Christ created man and woman, together as God's image. Headcovering of women was a new symbol and tradition that Paul introduced to visibly teach in every prayer or prophecy meeting the order of reality 1 Cor 11 v3. As a woman covered her head she displayed the order of man and woman by covering her own independent glory. If man covered his head it just confused the whole symbolism and the chain of submission in the order of reality.

In regard to v14 and 15. The word disgrace/dishonor is a different word to earler verses. Also in v15 the word covering is a different greek word to the act of covering in earkier verses. The key word in the section is glory which gives the theological connection back to v7. I proppse that he is simply saying that long hair on a man has no value .ie it doesnt look good. But women have been given long hair to be their glory because it looks good on them. The word covering has connotatoons of adornment or decoration. If you look closely at v6 you will see that Paul gives women 2 alternative couses of action " cover her head (or) cut it very short". Either action achieves the same result, it removes her glory from view while in the prayer or bible teaching meeting. In short version by covering her hair she is removing any claim to independent glory.

David. There is a simple exegetical solution to the mention of angels. It simply does not belong to verse 10. Rather it belongs to the following sentence. Also, "in the Lord" should be left in its original place in the greek. So the 3 sentences become. That is why a wife ought to have authority/exousia over her head Nevertheless, because of the angels, neither woman without man nor man without woman. For, in the Lord, just as woman out of man, so man through woman". The 3rd sentence is talking about Christ the creator of 1 cor 8v6 "through him". The 2nd sentence is Paul referencing back to Psalm 8 the creation psalm outlining order, hierarchial order in the order of reality, where it mentions angels, mankind, honor and glory. Thewhaterms are what Paul is discussing. However, Paul is also linking it all back to Gen 1 and 2 and the order of creation of man and woman. In gen 2 and man/Adam the image of God in Gen 1.

David. If you read 1 cor 14 carefully where Paul is discussing tongues and prophecy youbwill see that tongues is prayer. Also prophecy is being used as a summary term for speaking communication including teaching andvrevelations etc... Now 1 cor 11 v17ff is about church meetings specifically for eating which implies there were other church meetings for other things besides eating. These are described in v2 to 16 as praying or prophesying. Some meetings may have been just for praying, some just for prophesying and some for both. The 2 terns are just what he is discussing about church in 1 Cor 14.

I never understood it to be showing up early or late, just eating what you being. The rich people ate and drank their food while the poor had to sit there and watch.

The last verses of the section imply they were eating before others as Paul instructs them to wait for one another. 1 Corinthians 11:33-34: "So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another- if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home-so that when you come together it will not be for judgment. About the other things I will give directions when I come."

@@LakeshoreBaptistChurchGary Yet it does not state a common food source. They were just eating the food they brought without concern for others being there or not.

One quick correction: A couple of times in the sermon I said "mother-in-law" when I meant to say "stepmother." A wire got crossed in my brain or something. Thanks for listening and God bless - Pastor David Green

Why did God choose the weak? So that none may boast. If one asks, “why me, and not my brother?” Only God knows.

I like the way you read the scripture at the beginning, expound upon it, and then read it again at the end. I have not seen other preachers do that.
