Hi! You can use a standard pillar drill for using Flowdrill friction drills, in Turkey we are represented by cefip.com.tr/tr/ they would be the best point of contact.

hey, I'm interested in using an m14 flow drill bit in my battery drill which has an rpm of 2000 to try and get through copper pipe. do you think it's possible? i'm trying to build some brewing equipment and want to knock in branches to the larger diameter pipe and this looks like the most effective way for my application.

how to select process parameters for Flowdrill
@Flowdrill3 жыл бұрын
Generally around 1.3KW and 2000 RPM. If you got to www.flowdrill.com/eu_en/products and enter what kind of Flowdrill do you need, you will see the product and then inside the product is the corresponding RPM and KW. Alternatively feel free to drop an email to [email protected] with thread size, material thickness, material type.

Do you realize the military applications? You can set one of these on a drone and literally drill a hole in a ship or tank or plane! I'm surprised the military hasn't got a hold of this yet! Or has it?
@Flowdrill3 жыл бұрын
It would be great if it was possible, sadly the product needs a constant force behind it and this needs to be at a considerably slower speed than a bullet. Always good to think outside the box!

What rpm does this require?
@Flowdrill4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, it depends on thread diameter, material and material thickness as a guide: M8x1.25 in 2mm steel would be 2200 RPM and 1.3KW (1.75HP) On the website www.flowdrill.com/eu_en/products/flowdrill/? you can use the left column bar to select the type of tool you might need, then when you click on the article it gives a guide to RPM and power required if you need further information feel free to drop us an email: [email protected] Hope this helps.

I understand that friction drilling requires a fair amount of pressure to create heat. Can they be used with a hand drill?
@Flowdrill5 жыл бұрын
Hi Hugo, you are correct the axial force is just too much to push it through the material by hand. You can drill a pilot hole with a normal spiral drill first, this will reduce the force required. You would still need a hand drill with approx 2000RPM and 1.3KW which are hard to find. Thanks for asking though!
@hugostiglitz69145 жыл бұрын
@@Flowdrill I'll have to look into it. I have some shipping containers for car storage. I came to the conclusion that I was only using half the containers so I put a modified car hoise into one of them so I could fit two cars in. There are 60 attachments to the container which took for ever. I need to do 5 containers. Using a friction drill I could do them in no time. I'll have to look into it.

Hi Hugo, i am desperatelly looking for an answer from a person who definitely knows about friction drilling. The question is: Drill Press. Its a 550W 2600rpm max tool. Is it worth a try (or even does it works with it) or better not bother with it. I read your previous comment about the pilot hole (hand drill question) but i am not sure about my drillpress neither.
@Flowdrill4 жыл бұрын
@@dekurvajo Sorry for the delay Attila, I would not recommend attempting to friction drill with a 0.55KW drill press, if you can have access to 1.0KW minimum then you have a good opportunity to do M6 in 2mm steel. For thicker material or bigger diameter, you will need more power. An RPM around 2600 is more than enough though.

Impressive tech. Did you sell it to any bicycle manufacturers yet? It's perfect for drilling bottle cage mounts and mudguard mounts. Bicycle makers are always concerned for lower weight and this clearly adds no grams where a rivnut does. When a (stainless) steel bolt seizes into an aluminium rivnut, you are only one mistake away from scrapping the frame which can't happen with your tech.
@Flowdrill4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, we have a couple of applications on bicycles, for the bottle holder, suspension arm and sometimes even for mounting the spokes. When we drill the aluminium we end up with an aluminium threaded fastener so it would still not be super strong but more stable then nothing and shouldn't have the same problem of the insert slipping, on steel frames you have a very strong connection. Thanks again for the suggestions and we will see if we can contact some more bicycle manufacturers, we hadn't considered the mudguard mounts before!

The burr on the bottom of the tube looks pretty gnarly. Never seen anyone form tap on a vertical knee mill, don't you need constant downward pressure with a form tap? Since it's a thru hole, why not use a gun tap?
@Flowdrill7 жыл бұрын
Sorry John about the delay, just saw your comment now. The form tap works perfectly on a pillar drill as long as you have a reversing function (or tapping attachment), the rpm and downward pressure feed the tap through the material. We are using a floating tap holder which compensates for the variation is spindle speed and pitch. We recommend to use a form tap rather than a gun tap or cutting tap as this keeps the process chipless and creates a stronger threaded connection.
