Unique,tough,beautiful and well maintained great example of western Pa. golf! Punches way above its weight in terms of typical public course layouts. I live in Pittsburgh but prefer the Myrtle Beach/Ocean City/Hilton Head style of golf courses but you can't deny how nice this course is. Terrific use of the natural terrain that makes it a golf course you will remember.

Actually I have. Not sure what they have now but when I played in 2019 I had rented and they gave me TaylorMade M6 irons and woods. They were all in pretty good shape. Last time I took my own though. One thing I would recommend is take your own shoes and golf balls. They only give you a sleeve if I recall. The shoes were okay but not my style, and if you are looking for a photo op you want to look good. 😂

I'm an old duffer who is fortunate to have had a father who was educated in the Sam Snead/Patty Berg method. Having said that, I still play an old Wilson Staff clubhead (220g), a true temper shaft (126g), and a non-tapered grip (81g), with a hefty overall weight of 427g. I prefer the weight as I am not a hitter, but a swinger of the club. It helps with my timing and rythm. Most of my friends will make fun of the old warclub and tell me I need to hang it over the mantle and upgrade to the latest technology, but after so many years, I just can't seem to get a knack for the lighter weight (even with the 95g shafts I've sampled).
@thepittsburghgolfhack
@thepittsburghgolfhack 6 ай бұрын
There’s a lot going into today’s clubs. Not only are they bigger with lighter shafts, but the shafts themselves are longer. I think in the 90’s the average driver shaft length was 44-45 inches. Now it’s 48. That’s a lot more shaft to try and control. Yes the newer drivers go way longer, but if you can’t control the club face what good is it? Keep on hacking with what suits you best my friend.

@@thepittsburghgolfhack Agree, however I have noticed that I hit consistently farther with the heavier steel shafted driver than with a modern graphite Callaway Paradigm driver, both fitted for me. I can only conclude that the weight difference for my barrel swing is what's providing better strikes on the clubface.

@thepittsburghgolfhack
@thepittsburghgolfhack 7 ай бұрын
Have you tried Golf Galaxy? Most of them will not carry steel shaft for driver. So the reasoning might actually be they don’t have any. If you buy the shaft online and take it in they should be able to do it. If your driver has an adjustable hosel adapter though it’s very easy to DIY.

The handle bars are U-shaped, and go under the bag. They never hit the bag. You’d be surprised at how little you actually need to turn the wheel due to leaning in as you turn.

Over the years, i though about working here. I finally pulled through and got a position here in February 2023 and i have noticed alot of the things you have pointed out here. I took it upon myself to redo all 21 bunkers myself in my free time and am currently the person that changes the pins and tends to the greens (until we get more people that want to work) but over all did notice all this. I love seeing local folks review and have fun within Pittsburgh! Thank you for the video, you made my day!

I know this vid is phigolf 1 and I have phigolf 2 but for some reason on the 'range' section I'm slicing everything even though my miss is the hook, but when I go on the 'course' my shots are back to normal. Any idea what's happening there?
@thepittsburghgolfhack
@thepittsburghgolfhack Жыл бұрын
I can’t speak to Phigolf 2, but honestly I run into this on all sims. Even on Trackman I have noticed that my shot dispersion looks much different on the range than when playing a round virtually. As weird as it seems sometimes I think it’s mental because we focus harder on trying to hit the target. Maybe it’s just me though. From a technical stance I don’t have an answer though.
@Keith-zc2nn
@Keith-zc2nn Жыл бұрын
I got the Phi Golf 2, the accuracy differs from application within the game, The WTC courses give me the right clubs for my ability, while the Phi Golf 2 courses I have to go 1 or 2 clubs up, (I'm doing reps for each bogey to try to find more than girly distance).
@thepittsburghgolfhack
@thepittsburghgolfhack Жыл бұрын
Can’t speak to Phigolf 2 but I sometimes see a difference. Sometimes you have to consider the lie and wind as that will make a difference too. I also think we swing different on the range vs. course. Technically I don’t know what would cause it though.

kind of late but i had a question. i’m new to golf, me and my friends just go to the range and wanna hit the ball far lol. we bought some drivers but they felt cheap cuz they broke each time we played, we thought it was graphite shafts specifically, i ordered a steel RAM 10.5 driver from amazon, anyways, do u believe that the steel woll be way more durable? i want the driver to last forever
@thepittsburghgolfhack
@thepittsburghgolfhack Жыл бұрын
If you have broken multiple driver shafts, you most likely are either doing something wrong, or else those drivers were just extremely old. Lol….Even a steel shaft can break if you stress it. Steel shafts can rust over the years if not kept in a controlled environment. Graphite can get brittle over time also. So it really just all depends on how well you take care of them.

@thepittsburghgolfhack
@thepittsburghgolfhack Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for checking out the video. The adapter I have is the Apple lightning cable to HDMI adapter. You connect that to your phone/tablet, and then an HDMI cable from the adapter to the TV. Some people do the screen mirroring, but for me there was too much of a lag. Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Lol that is the million dollar question. Not too terrible actually. I shot a 93 overall with the front being the toughest with a 51, but most of that came from trying to be a hero out of the rough. Once I learned that you aren’t getting out of the rough so easily, I was able to get it together and pull a 42 on the back. The wide fairways make playing this course much more enjoyable.

Just played Pheasant Ridge for the first time. Your assessment is very accurate. The price per round is on the steep side, but given the quality of the course, it is not unreasonable. Keeping the ball in play is essential as wayward shots can really punish you. I had avoided this course because so many warned me about blind shots. I did not find that to be the full story. It is a very hilly course, which results in some blind shots, but overall it was a good experience. Unlike some local courses, I did not find the fairways were cocked at such an angle that the ball would roll off the fairway if well struck. I will play it again. Nice review.

Yep, you just put it in line with your putt line. If you have a putt with multiple breaks, you’d probably need to break the putt up into segments. Again, totally not legal in regular play, but perfect for learning how to read greens in practice.
