What a great video. It reminded me of my first experience of flying a PA Warrior from Blackpool to Barton way back in 1990's on the last leg of my PPL Navigation Exam. However, on my way to Blackpool (from Halfpenny Green via the Low Level Corridor) I needed to negotiate Warton's MATZ and its Tornado traffic. Calling them up a lovely lady said, "Oh sorry love, they've all just gone home, so I suppose it'll be OK". It was 5.30pm. Landing at Blackpool then proved perfectly easy with no crabbing until when about to touch down the left wing and tail suddenly lifted and the propellor was almost scraping the tarmac. Apologising profusely to the tower staff for my worst landing ever they said "It's not your fault, the wind suddenly veered - it's been doing that all day, and we've changed the active runway as a result." The wind over the cliffs had become so strong that on then leaving for Barton the plane to my surprise took off on it's own within just 10% of the runway!

Flew 36 hours in Wyoming in 1998. Didn't continue when I got back to Liverpool later that year. Only restarted with Liverpool Flying School last year. Done 25 hours in a PA-28 but because of work/ travel/PhD, I just focussed on ground school this year and flying went on the 'back burner'. But, transitioned to a PA-38. Plan to complete my PPL, Night rating and IMC/IR (Restricted) by the end of next year and do multi-engine with Ravenair the year after. Not interested in commercial as I have another (aerospace) career. Great video, by the way. I've flown to Hawarden 3 times and the main reason being is - as you know - it's our alternate so in case there's an issue at Liverpool on the way home, at least I know where the VRPs are and the runway layout. Only issue with Hawrden is, with the hills to the West and South, the airflow can be quite disriptive so you're all over the place.

My farther Max (Sigi) Romrig founded the Lincolnshire gliding club. Originally flying out of Swinderby, I still remember the day we went to look around Sturgate as a possible base for the club. I was about four years old. It was abandoned at that time. It did become the base, and I have very happy memories of flying with dad. He passed away a couple of years ago aged 94. I believe the club became the Trent valley gliding club now based in Kirton Lindsey.
