Holy rip! How much cut and fill is involved? What's the material like?
@JSer6718 күн бұрын
@@ExcavationRevelationyeah, that's what I thought. The area is on a soft slope. The measured elevation dropped about 3 feet from opposite diagonal corners on the 40x60 perimeter. Soil is sandy and has sparse clump grasses. I'm about 30-40minutes from town where about 200 tons of aggregate will be trucked in from. The rest will be moved from around the property (8-9 acre lot). Thoughts?
@ExcavationRevelation15 күн бұрын
@JSer67 I would ask them to itemize their quote for you as much as possible. Were other companies comparable with their numbers? Granted, the contractor with the lowest price isn't always the best option, but sometimes another contractor might bid it high if they are real busy or feel that it might be a challenge. Shale or other fill might be a cheaper option than quarry stone, but not every contractor has that available.

@TLSolutionsАй бұрын
The biggest thing I found, is learn the throttle, when your missing and grinding you either let off the throttle way to much or not enough, just ease up the throttle and make it all one motion. Sudden Downshifting was the hardest for me, the top end went fine but the rolling stops were hard to find gears, you can use the clutch blip the throttle and EASE out to drop it in.

Top soil is very bad for doing anything on it because it has humus in it. Humus is rest of rotten plants. Very good for growing things but very bad for building anything, roads , parkings. Because humus has very unstable properties : it becomes thin powder when dry, and thick mud when moist. As slippery as grease. And it never stays solid. The soil that has this into it can’t stand pressure without moving, is totally unstable when rain comes. It’s not because of its topsoil name, it’s because it’s full of humus and then is the total enemy of constructions.

Saturday, every bucketful was photograghed and metal detected. Sunday, there was half as many people as Saturday. They all mostly stood around bullshitting and not paying attention to the dig, like they did on Saturday. They shut the dig down and said there was nothing there. They gave the operator a ride back to the shop, because the Duramax's fuel was jelled up. He said he couldn't tell if the machine was moved through the night, because of the early morning snow. If I remember correctly, there was a piece of a large bolt and a chunk of cast iron plate found during Saturday's dig. It was stopped short of the depth due to lots of water.

All load ratings specified by the manufacturers are straight pull. None of yours are straight, and that one on the front in that oblong hole? Yikes, that killed whatever rating that turn buckle had. Consult a load master for aircraft handbook before advising others.

I can tell being a heavy equipment hauler, I always hit the chains with a breaker bar/pipe to make sure they are tight. A lot of time you think it's tight, be there is actually a "knot" in the chains, and the first bump you hit, you get slack in the chains. You will be surprised how often you think your chains are tight but they are not. You want have to pull over and check anymore doing this, but you should still check them when you stop for something else

Just wanted to let you know. In an emergency, You can use the CLUTCH BREAK to shift into any gear you want. This will stop transmission from rotating, and you can shift as if the engine is off. Then, gradually release the clutch. If you choose the wrong gear you may blow your engine, but you are able to shift into any gear from neutral, while the truck is in motion.

If I have a choice, I always place the binder on the curbside of the trailer so if I must stop on the side of the road to check or tighten a binder, I'm not subject to passing vehicles.

Excellent video, I'm a career oversize carrier, the way you did it is 100% legal, the oblong hole you used in the lift arm is also used with a T-hook, that eliminates the side load on your hook, again great video, Just wanted to throw that in. All the best.

How do excavator operators know how deep they are digging?
@ExcavationRevelation2 ай бұрын
For graves, I carry a tape measure with me because the depth and dimensions need to be right on. For trenches or other similar tasks, I make a mental note of how tall the bucket is or a link pin above it for a rough idea while I'm digging. Just make sure that the stick is completely vertical when you are measuring. You can also put a paint mark on the side of your bucket(it will eventually wear off from digging). I've seen some guys write depths on the stick with a sharpie, but to me that looks tacky.

Thanks for this video. I test out this weekend but have trouble finding gears sometimes. Especially 2 to 3 and 5. But going out on the road again today so will give it a try with your video in mind.

After owning approximately 10-12 trailers of all types in 25yrs I've learned a few things that apply to all of them. 1. Always over rate the trailer by at least 1 to 2,000lbs for what you are towing. 2. Never buy anything that comes with bias ply tires. Radials only 3. Always get the larger axles if you are close to maxing out the axle rating 4. Stay away from all the cheap brand trailers like Diamond Cargo etc. They are cheap for multiple reasons. Doesn't matter what type 5. Always carry a laser temp gun with you to check hub temps. Record how hot they get new and then grease when you see the temps start to go up on every trip over time. 6. Only buy what your truck can pull. Do not get close to the max capacity of your truck. Always stay under that by around 2,000lbs. This will save your transmission 7. Do not beat the hell out of your truck by revving the engine to death. Keep the rpms as low as possible and just let the truck do it's thing. 8. Always grease your ball fellas lol 9. Never ever lend a trailer to a friend. Ever. 10. If using a lower load rating tire from stock, always upgrade the tires to the next load range up when time to replace 11. Never have the gain too high 3 to 5 is normal range. Cheaper to replace brakes on truck than the trailer. 12. Always display your trans temp guage. Anything past 215 degrees you are getting into the damage area for a trans. If you run your trans that hot often, change trans fluid often. It will save your trans. 13. People are like distributors some are advanced and some are retarded, don't let anyone tell you anything about trailers that can't even back one up.

@@ExcavationRevelation Prob my favorite trailer has been my 7x16 Carmate enclosed cargo trailer. I have literally used that trailer for everything that can fit in it. It has served me extremely well for over 300k miles and still going strong. I only had to put one set of bearings in it, one wheel and 1 led side marker light. I've used it almost every day 6 months out of the year for 11yrs now. And I only had to re caulk the top seal one time as well. Thing is the best money that I've ever spent.
