In novel its revealed that Ichigo was going to be turned into a soul king and mutilated. So he probably gave it as to say goodbye in worst case scenario. This is only my headcanon but Shunsui didn't want this to happen and probably had a different plan, he probably wanted to make Aizen the soul king. Which is why he said something about "interests". What I'm not sure about is if Aizen would be mutilated or if he would just do it the way he always wanted to, Shunsio tying him up on chair means he was probably gonna make Ichibei do it. The novel also revealed Aizen was a soul king candidate and Yoruichi even said she has no issues with Aizen becoming the soul king if they had to go through with it.
