Hi Bill hope you're well. A most enjoyable virtual walk around back beach and the information about the salty, what is the origin of the name salty?. The cake looked rather tasty I bet you mum enjoyed it, I think I would have had 2 slices too be honest. Best wishes stay safe Jon and Karen
@BillsPhoneTeignmouthСағат бұрын
Cheers mate - No Idea on the origin of the name Salty I'm afraid - Like I say I remember it being there, then suddenly around 1981, it wasn't! don't even remember it being dredged! Yes, cake was lovely. It was the 'last slice' so perhaps a little larger than usual 👍

As a child in the 1960’s I was fascinated by the Salty, I wasn’t living in Devon then, just on holiday but I can remember it having green on it. I can’t remember how many years that we came to Devon always staying in Dawlish but I know we were there in 1966 to 1970. We missed 65 as my dad couldn’t to come down from Lincolnshire but I know they where in Devon the year before I was born, 1955. I carried on the tradition when I left school and remember seeing the luna eclipse in November 1975 from the car park of the Smugglers Inn near Dawlish. I moved down in 2003 on account of those holiday’s. My only regret is I wish I could have got here sooner. Question, does anyone remeber the Teign Gold cider place on the road out of Shaldon to Newton Abbot. I used to love that cider and always took a few bottles home with me in the 1970’s.
@BillsPhoneTeignmouthКүн бұрын

@@BillsPhoneTeignmouth Cheers, thanks very much. I have a schooner in a bottle from a wet fish shop in Teignmouth, used to be near the crossroads in the middle of town. They had a few in the window and I asked a man who worked there how much they cost. He told me they weren’t for sale but he said he would let me buy one. I can’t remeber how much it was but it couldn’t have been much as it was 1973 and I didn’t have much money in those days. He told me an ex-sailor who lived in Shaldon made them. Happy days.
