This is not true. Adagio for Strings was first written as part of his String Quartet- he was 25. He arranged it and sent it to Toscanini who conducted the first orchestra version 3 years later. Barber lived to the age of 71. He wrote a significant amount of music after the Adagio. None are as globally known because this piece is one of the absolute most famous classical works of the whole 20th century. But he did go on to write beautiful works. This one is not my favorite of his. His other great works for me are the Violin Concerto, the Piano Concerto, the Hermit Songs, Dover Beach, and Knoxville: Summer of 1915. His three Essays for Orchestra, symphony in one movement, summer music, art songs (including Sure on this Shining Night, probably his second most famous outside classical music circles) are all played regularly and he is an important voice for many living performers and composers. Sadly, the end of his life was quite dismal. He always struggled with the fact that his music was romantic and emotional in a time where classical music was rejecting that, and so people ignored his work. He developed alcoholism. After the failure of his last opera, his life partner walked out and he died alone from complications of his addiction to alcohol.

It’s very hard to explain/describe the emotion that this piece brings to my psyche. I feel as if I’m in the presence of God. The thought of that brings joy and the overwhelming realization of the isolated beauty of this world. Pure genius.

The first few notes tells you that you’re beaten. Confronting your loss is what makes us so sad
Может быть, эти двое воссоединились? Или одно - это трансформация другого? Или они - зеркало другого, и одно в одном? Я ценю, что вы смотрите и размышляете о значениях, это редкая и прекрасная вещь!

Platoon uses this piece to perfection. I don’t think there is a movie scene as powerful as that one due to this. They both make each other slightly better.

While there isn’t any alternate orchestration of that piece it’s a good idea! There is the Canzone middle movement of his piano concerto, which has been arranged for a number of duos.

I used to play the saxophone in school. That summer I became a cowboy. I got kicked in the head breaking a horse. Got stitches. I went back to school. Band started. I didn't realize it, didn't know. I couldn't read music anymore. And I couldn't do fractions anymore either. I hide it. My step mom taught me the piano. Soon that too went away. All I can do now is just listen and watch the scale fall out of my head and I can't bring it back.

It is so difficult to find Adagio for strings and Agnus Dei performed together. You have done an amazing job mixing this. Is it on any platforms ie Spotify?

No, I haven't uploaded it anywhere, feel free to download the audio! I agree it's a great sound, and thank you-- it was fun to sync them up!

Hey Sonic! Try the Dale Warland Singers "Cathedral Classics," 1994. It's not a mix, but it has the voices, Barber, Agnus Dei, and others... best wishes.
