Great video, wasn't expecting the history lesson on Bartman himself, but as someone who's always had kind of a soft spot for this dumb alter ego it was cool to see. If you wanna get real technical, Bartman's first video game appearance was in The Simpsons Arcade. During Bart's respawn animation he's briefly seen wearing the getup. (Edit: and of course he's also on the name entry screen, for some reason I forgot)
@honestom237 күн бұрын
I wanted to cover Bartman as an idea in this video as the game is focused on Bartman and he's come up a few times before, but really Bartman could be it's own video. You're right about Bartman being in The Simpsons Arcade, it's something I had forgotten until after this video went out. I also ended up buying a couple more of the Simpsons LCD games recently, and one of them is Bartman Avenger of Evil which has the copyright year as being 1990. I think the idea for Bartman was something that generally existed for at least a few months before Bartman appeared in the show, but not sure what the actual first appearance is. Maybe I'll dive into it again in the future.

I got this game on the SNES second handout, without the manual, I had to figure out everything by myself. Which I did, mostly... I never knew about scrolling the camera in the Temple of Maggie game. Probably why I could never beat the bloody thing. Nor did I learn about controlling the gum.

I've had a blast listening to this Simpsons game retrospective series this last couple of days. Kind of sad that I've finally caught up to the most recent one. Also: I have watched The Simpsons since season one first aired in 1989, but I had no idea that Bart's House of Weirdness and Bart and the Beanstalk even existed!

I get the impression Bart vs The World actually had a fairly ambitious concept behind it, there's some good or otherwise interesting ideas here. But whether it was lack of time or lack of creativity, these ideas don't come together in a satisfying way. It's all either just blandly decent, or bad in a purely frustrating way, with less overall charm to it than Space Mutants or Camp Deadly. I can see bits of a better game in there, though. Would love to hear the devs talk about it someday.

I like Batt vs the Space Mutants but the idea it is better than Super Mario Brothers is hilarious. Bart vs the Space Mutants is not a good platformer and I lost a lot of lives due to the awful platforming on Stage 2, I think I got to stage 4 once and died pretty quickly. I mostly died on stage 3

Beat it as a kid? HOW?!?! lol How do you beat that with 9 lives. XD I think the furthest I got was the dino boss as a kid. But that hit box made it unpossable gettting there and living on 9 lives + what you got along the way. That said I remember this being the better simpsons games on the NES. But that was a LONG time ago. I remember loving the carnaval stage though.

@@darkri491 Conversely, imagine Grunty’s relief when Banjo answers said final question incorrectly. In spite of her cockiness, she’s surely sweating bullets reading out the questions as Banjo answers right again and again, only to experience the ultimate satisfaction when he screws up with Tooty practically arms-length away - One minute thinking of her escape after her plan’s impending failure and the next cackling as she drags Tooty back up to the pod for her dream makeover.

Forgive me if this sounds strange, but the part from 22:15 to 23:03 actually was really motivational for me. I struggle frequently with older games from the 8 and 16 bit eras due to my less than stellar reaction time, my not too great aim, and my difficulty recognizing patterns. Regardless of how easy or hard a game is, even something like Kirby's Adventures in Dreamland is a massive uphill climb for me. But this part of your video actually gave me some good motivation. I was inspired and gave Bonk's Adventure on the nes, a game i had given up on due to my inability to fully grasp the extremely important jumping head bash, another shot and i actually beat it and had fun! And i thank you for that Honestom, i really do.

For a long time this was my favorite arcade game, I've played on the cabinet more times than I can count. It's fun, it's weird, it has m A R G e, what's not to love. Now I don't know what my favorite is, but this is still up there. Actually didn't know about the 2 button super attack for years. You're definitely meant to spam it on the late game bosses like the Bowling Ball and Mr. Burns, especially the former where you can whale on it between phases. The best thing the JP version did was add secret health items to Stage 3 and the final boss room. Those are both the most difficult sections of the game imo and really needed these. That combined with the health refill after every level, instead of every bonus round, makes the game's finale way more humanly possible. The US version expects you to beat Kabuki Master, Smithers and 4 forms of Mr. Burns on one health bar. Ridiculous.

Yeah you're right. When I was writing the script, I didn't naturally include it in one of the sections and didn't add it in later as it didn't feel important. They are a part of the game though so should have at least mentioned the usable items.

The Gruntilda Effect is what I claim: when you play this game, it unlocks something inside you crave, and impacts the words you say. But it doesn't need to be the witch, any rhyme will make you switch, if you hear them enough times, you will more likely to rhyme.
