This series is my new favorite obsession! I found Krusty's Fun House on NES at a local thrift shop recently, and it got me started on a retro Simpsons video games craze.

Happy to see another video, and pleasantly surprised at the brief appearance of the game Rockin' Kats! A game from my childhood that I was happy to go back to and find that it is actually still quite a fun little gem

Haha yeah when I was trying to think of what games to show for that section, didn't want to only include the big hits so went with Rockin' Kats. There's so many platformers in the NES so plenty of games to choose outside of the most popular ones.

I was shown your channel by a friend. I've only watched your Simpsons vids so far, but I really love your content and how you approach it. It's VERY appreciated. Often, I have problems with analytical channels because they ONLY examine games from a modern perspective rather than when they came out, and they are very unfair to the games. No thought or care is put into those channels about how new game development was, the tools they had to work with, etc. With your channel, I think you take a very fair approach when discussing how these games are designed. The analysis from a modern standpoint, putting yourself into the shoes of a gamer back in the day, and also comparing the games against other similar ones released at the same time as well as others in the series. The breakdown of the games is fascinating, and I greatly appreciate the effort you put into these videos. Thank you for what you do, and I look forward to seeing more

Great video! Regarding the Bartman timeline, the character actually existed earlier than you mentioned. It was around in 1989 on some of the merch that flooded the market in the early days, before the Bartman song dropped.

Subbed for that opening essay (which I just thought was gonna tell me something I knew) and watched the entire thing.

Thanks for another entertaining video. This is one I never played as a kid, so I was definitely curious… but like you said, the whole “Bartman” thing never held appeal for me. There was a lot of potential in doing parodies of comic or comic book movies here, which is kind of teased by the whole “Limbo Zone” thing being a reference to/very light parody of the Phantom Zone from the Christopher Reeve Superman films. The visual of Radioactive Man spinning inside one of those glass panes like General Zod is fun. But beyond that, they didn’t really even try! In terms of incorporating actual humor or even just Simpsons references, this feels like a low point - even lower than the posters slapped on Krusty’s fun house walls :(

It's one of the biggest knocks against the game, which I should have spoken about more tbh, is that it doesn't feel like the Simpsons at all. It made ranking it tough as ideally it would be much lower for that reason, but couldn't do it as it just functions as a video game better than quite a few of the other games so far. It won't be top 10 when the list is finished. The super hero parody idea sounds cool! Nowadays with how much the Simpsons is obsessed with parodies, it would be an obvious thing to do but I guess not back in 92.

I remembered this one being really hard. I had to look around on the sewer area to get more stuff before i went on 😅 it was a good area to prepare. I missed the super jump. I played this one a week after the one with it in it. So my brain was already used of using it. The final boss was a joke but i was happy about it either way. At least we got some kinda boss fight against the big bad

Played this one back in the late 90s, at a time it wasn't exactly new, but not all that old either, and remember being pretty positively surprised by it. It's not GREAT, but it feels like it's trying, and it lacks the endless flaws and frustration I associated with Simpsons games at the time. It also felt like it got better as it went on (the first junkyard level is dull), while the others mostly got worse and worse.

Great video, wasn't expecting the history lesson on Bartman himself, but as someone who's always had kind of a soft spot for this dumb alter ego it was cool to see. If you wanna get real technical, Bartman's first video game appearance was in The Simpsons Arcade. During Bart's respawn animation he's briefly seen wearing the getup. (Edit: and of course he's also on the name entry screen, for some reason I forgot)

I wanted to cover Bartman as an idea in this video as the game is focused on Bartman and he's come up a few times before, but really Bartman could be it's own video. You're right about Bartman being in The Simpsons Arcade, it's something I had forgotten until after this video went out. I also ended up buying a couple more of the Simpsons LCD games recently, and one of them is Bartman Avenger of Evil which has the copyright year as being 1990. I think the idea for Bartman was something that generally existed for at least a few months before Bartman appeared in the show, but not sure what the actual first appearance is. Maybe I'll dive into it again in the future.

Once again another solid review and as usual I can't disagree with any of your criticisms. I completely forgot there was a Game Gear version but given what you've said if it's not all that better than the NES version anyway then I'll just skip playing it. I didn't get to play it on the real NES as it was never at any video rental places but I did play it via emulation in the late 90's for the first time, I just can't remember if it was Nesticle or LoopyNES. But yeah, just like you a part of me had high hopes that maybe they had learned from their mistakes with the first two NES Simpsons game when I first tried this but it's essentially the same working game engine as Space Mutants and VS The World. The eye lasers were a good idea but why give it an ammo count and not be able to shoot in 8 directions or at least 4 directions instead of only left or right? Why can't you crouch or provide a way to attack enemies shorter than you? Most of the levels Bart can fall into pits then a few levels later he's flying around? It's a hot, inconsistent mess and while disappointed I wasn't completely surprised but just had hoped they had improved. I'm interested for your commentary with Bart & The Beanstalk as I've only played it once and only for 2 to 5 minutes as it didn't immediately grab me. Thanks again! 😎
