We especially like the texture of our SD. It’s not as dry or chewy as commercial but holds up well with sandwiches. Recently I tried a hybrid experiment and included about 1/2 C of SD starter with the liquids but also included some yeast - about a scant tsp (+/- half of usual amt). Proceeded like making regular yeasted bread. Surprise! Texture superior to “regular” yeast bread…. But the Time was like normal yeast bread. Taste also improved. We likey! We still make regular SD bread but our hybrid is our go-to when we need a loaf in a couple hours.

It's probably the extra moisture the sourdough starter provides and the reduced rise from the lowed amount of yeast that's improving your texture - either way - Big homesteader-hug for thinking outside the bread box and trying a new idea. I do add sourdough starter to yeast bread as part of the hydration too sometimes for enhanced (though limited) improved digestibility. The tangy flavor of strong starter makes me cringe tho. so I feed my starter well and often and use a lightly closed lid to increase the lactic acid (yogurt flavors) as much as possible. lol

Those peppers are beautiful, even the ones I wouldn't dare eat because I don't like spicy food. A few years ago, I first saw Shishito peppers in a supermarket so I bought a small bag and made pepper steak. It was a mild batch I think because I tolerated them well. I'm guessing that's what Notapeños are like?
@TheHandmadeHomestead

Shishito peppers are mostly mild - every once in a while you'll get a spicy one. We love them and grow them too. The Nadapenos have zero heat -- and Habanadas (zero heat Habanadas) are also a great pepper to get the flavor without the heat.

I bought a flannel sheet several years ago to make some handmade towels like that- thanks for the reminder to do it!!! The crackers look great- do you just spread the sourdough out and sprinkle seasoning or is it a recipe? I have heard you can make crackers like that but haven't tried it yet.

How long in the dehydrator and what temp?
@TheHandmadeHomestead
@TheHandmadeHomestead 18 күн бұрын
I do everything I can at 95 to 114 - and the time depends on too many factors to guess - temp, humidity in the air, type of machine - even the drying rack type -- so dry until they are crispy and crumble easily.

Just make sure it's a heavy duty floor loom if you want to make rugs. Table looms are wonderful for light weight projects but rugs need a hard beat and a lot of muscle. I use 50" wide Antique cherry Norwood looms to make rugs. I have an 8 harness and a 4 harness.

There are wonderful table top looms on the market, and they hold their resale value well so when you are ready to move up to a larger loom or a floor loom you can resell your table top one without taking a bit hit. Look at rigid heddle looms and see if that's not a good place for you to start.

My problem is I only like asparagus, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli and can't grow/scared to grow the. & do grow sugar snaps, wax beans, lettuce, onions, carrot, potatoes. I just did potatoes in bucket & it worked. The carrot tops are great but no orange. I have raised beds & pots on my small yard so I do what I can. My asthma keeps me limited on energy but I'm still learning. Thanks for sharing.

I dry them and use them in place of parsley to garnish and flavor food, and I use them in pesto too. It's probably one of my favorite things in the kitchen! -- and I think carrot roots are fickle little brats. Sometimes they're ok, sometimes they don't give me much for roots either. lol You're in good company my friend!

Hi pretty lady! This is the best video ever! Will you consider doing a video on low light or shade tolerant garden plants? The creator "Planterina" has tons of videos on low light plants, but those are houseplants, not garden veggies. Some of us live in bonified "Forestland" (me and hubs) and we do not always have high light areas. Plus, our home has a huge porch and so the interior is mostly shaded. What do you think?

Hi, i think you're really nice and I dont mean to sound rude, but Did you add salt to the sourdough before baking it? It makes a huge difference. I baked 2 loaves, one with no salt and one with salt. Did you ever try that and taste them side by side? EDIT: the reason I ask is that there is some kind of chemical reaction with the salt that makes all baked goods mild and tasty. That's why we add salt even to sweet treats like cookies and cakes. But I am not an absolute expert and cannot explain the chemical reaction or how it happens, I just know it does happen. Excluding salt can make the baked item bad tasting and sometimes nearly inedible. Someone else can probably explain way better than I can. EDIT 2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3KwaGqepp2WhrMfeature=shared chainbaker explains it and this video also has a section on sourdough and salt.

Everyday Bread (add in this order) -- You can have delicious bread in 3 hours! 1 cup warm water or milk 2 tsp. rapid rise yeast, or bread machine yeast 2-3 T honey (or sugar of choice) 3 cups bread flour (all purpose is okay too) 1/2 T salt 2-4 T melted butter (avocado, olive oil, or coconut oil) ----------------You can run this on the basic bread cycle in a machine, or use the dough cycle and do the last shape & rise yourself and bake in the oven yourself.
