Garabaldi best character in Babylon 5 he told it how it is

This happened to me with the series Riyria Revelations by Michael J. Sullivan. I adore those books, but someone dismissed it as "popcorn fantasy". I felt like... no way we read the same books. Likewise, people fall asleep to my favorite series, the slow-paced Mushi-Shi. It's well-reviewed, but it appeals to specific kinds of people. When the similarly-slow recent anime Frieren came out, I was not surprised to see many people couldn't sit through the first few episodes for the same reasons as Mushi-shi. Probably the same thing can be said about David Lynch-he's almost universally revered, but only Twin Peaks fans like his movie Fire Walk With Me.

One can't help but wonder how much has gone unseen because people were too quick to dismiss it.

Well said! As a person who has struggled with diet and exercise regimens, productivity habits, and just about every executive functioning tip or trick out there, what I've found to work the best (for me) is to add doable changes a little at a time. Sometimes trying to overhaul one's life becomes too difficult and unsustainable for long periods of time. There are a few healthy-diet influencers on social media that have encouraged the mindset of "instead of cutting everything out, start adding healthy options in." For example, instead of cutting all the carbs, increase fiber and protein so your body can still get the nutrition it needs without feeling deprived. Eventually, cutting back will become easier. The same goes for creative endeavors. Adding time into your schedule to work on your goals doesn't need to take over your life. If it did, you might come to dread and even resent it.

All excellent points which make a good addition to what I said in the video, but your last sentence in particular makes me think of a cautionary tale that should have been in the video. Burnout is a very real thing of which we need to be aware, and do our best to avoid. I experienced it many times before realizing that working myself that hard meant getting less done, not more.

If you work in a serial format, you can do part of this search as your communication with fans: write short stories about those important parts of their life and share them with fans. You can also find many interesting questions in the character creation of old roleplaying games. Some actually have lifepath systems where you can get ideas for answers.

I like that idea of writing character life-event short stories and sharing them with an audience as part of the development project. I did write such stories for each of the main characters in my series, but that was after publication. There's definitely potential in doing so pre-publication. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

@@AuthorDodgeMerrin The main danger of that is that stories may become canonical that are no longer optimal later on. So an unreliable narrator may be a good idea ☺

I loved Ivanova. Claudia owned this. She terrifies everyone, and I think she is at least 50% of the reason why the Shadow War was successful.
@AuthorDodgeMerrin27 күн бұрын
She was named as one of the people who could replace Sheridan a couple different times. And of course she did a pretty good job when she did replace him toward the end of the Earth Civil War. The Shadows probably should have been more afraid of her than Sheridan to be honest.
@TheLunacyofOurTimes26 күн бұрын
@@AuthorDodgeMerrin BIG SIGH. There is no way Ivonova could have replaced him. She was his foil, A device to make him stronger. On her own she could never have taken command.

While Bester made a good villain, I'm curious if he could have made a genuine switch to the Good guys. Like when Clark allied with the Core or when his lover was used as an experiment for the shadow vessels, Bester could have not agreed with it and begrudgingly decided it was in his best interests to ally with Sheridan to at the very least restore the status quo. He has that whole nazi-like master race superiority complex, but he could draw the line at totalitarianism, plus Clark is a Mundane, to have to serve him would also not be favorable to Bester either.

"There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain." One of my favourites.

@mpowell4030Ай бұрын
@@AuthorDodgeMerrin Yeah, I wanted to show that they, or at least the "ringleader", got their comeuppance. Especially for it to be poetic justice after what they put Sheridan through. And since my character was half Vorlon, you could probably guess how "intense" the pain was on his mind.

B5 had themes of good and evil in ones own society. As well as personal choices and consequences for morality. While star trek was idealized . B5 always felt more relatable. As people aren't perfect they are flawed. Their colleagues are flawed. That struggle with flaws made b5 better in a lot of ways I think.

"God sent me." What many miss is that this is the culmination of what we may call the Ivanova Cycle. We first saw Susan Ivanova arrive on station as a bitter atheist in total rejection of her roots in Judaism and her parent's legacy. Episode after episode we have seen this shell worn away, as Susan begins to accept this legacy. Finally, in these three words, we see through Susan Ivanova's mind the complete acceptance of her spiritual heritage and the legacy passed on to her by her parents, the understanding that from here infancy, from her parent''s infancies, even back to the call of Abraham, has been a consistent destiny to bring her to this place at this time. However large or small her role in this destiny may be, it was divinely appointed for her. This confidence is the foundation of her terrifying resolve. Romans 4:21
