When I used to make a coat or jacket I would sew my collars the same way,, I haven't sewn a coat or jacket, dress, pants in a very long time. Thank you for the video...

Hello, I love your coat design, I'm looking for a coat pattern with a similar classic design, but with a hood. Do you think I could add a hood ?
@EserielPatternsАй бұрын
I think you can try drafting the hood pattern yourself; there are plenty of instructions available online. You simply measure the neckline on the coat, starting from the point where you want the hood to begin at the front of the coat. You could even sew it after finishing the coat as a detachable hood, for example, using buttons and loops :) sorry for the late reply!

did i miss something out? how did you manage to turn it inside out when you only have the arm hole unstitch?
@EserielPatternsАй бұрын
You’re seeing it correctly - you turn the entire coat inside out through the opening left in the sleeve lining. It’s a bit tricky, but it’s doable! Sorry for replying so late :)

no overloack on your pieces before assembly?
@EserielPatterns2 ай бұрын
No, because everything is closed inside anyway and it doesn't really matter, it just won't be visible. But if you want, you can finish every seam allowance with an overlock, it's up to you ;)

so complicated! my mom use to sow all the pieces first with the overlock machine. The finish assembly was done with the straight machine. The lower seams was never sowed by machine but by hand to close the bottom, that was back in 1970. She had a straight manufacturing machine and an overlocked. When she overturned the coat inside out, you'd have one side : inside lining coat and the other the outside lining coat being held by the collar, shoulders and the wrist sleeves. And the winter coats I bought, i remember that the bottom was NEVER closed, the lining was never sowed with the exterior lining
@EserielPatterns3 ай бұрын
Maybe you don't know, but in tailoring there are different sewing techniques, not just one "holy" and correct way 😉 Besides, from what I understand, your mom sewed the same way, she just turned the coat from the bottom instead of through the sleeve opening like I do. I prefer to do it this way because it gives a nice, clean finish at the bottom and machine stitch is stronger than hand stitch 😊

As for the cutting, among the files, you'll find a list of the pattern pieces: what and how many times you need to cut, which element to reinforce with interfacing, etc. Arrange the pieces according to the grainline marked on the pattern and that's it 😊
