You are making the right move leaving for Asia. As far as I can see our beloved country is heading for serious problems both economically and socially. However, if there is one piece of advice I can give is keep the flat and rent it out (and take out guaranteed rent insurance) which gives peace of mind. Overtime, property increases in value even with its peaks and troughs. If things go pear shaped in Thailand you will always have a place to come home to. If you sell and have that cash in a bank temptation can rear its ugly head. You can end up spending more than you planned for. Interest rates are dropping so less on savings and inflation will eat into the true value of cash. Rents and property values will always increase in real terms.

Try a few countries in SE Asia. You be need a regular income abroad. Ive been away 16 years and not regretted one day.

I wish i could just leave the UK myself but my old mum only has me and I couldn't desert her in her twilight years. And my dad, even though he has his woman to help look after him. Otherwise I'd be gone. Literally anywhere has got to be better than this country and where its heading.

I dont blame you for leaving. I live in France and its so much better. I've also visited a friend in Thailand 3 times and I'd happily live there . Healthcare is excellent. . I had dental work done. So fast, so good and my £4000 work would have cost £14,000/16,000€. Major work, stripped out all the crappy NHS amalgum fillings, crowns and bridges and i had 4 root canals. I havent had an issue in the 6 years since...and people complement me on my smile ! The UK is about to go downwards in a big way....the pressure is building and it will go bang soon.

Dont spend like your on holiday. Seen many a skint brit head home homeless and worse..

Your not the only one getting out of here mate. I’ve been planning it for 5 years back and forward to Thailand. Give it 5 years and I’m off. But in all honesty I would rent the house out. Which is what I’m going to do just in case….. I’m doing the 800000 baht in the Thai bank and going to live off my pension and the rent. As long as I’m not on the bevy every day I’ll be fine. Issan here I come
