Good job, try heating up the welding surfaces with a cutting torch, should work better, since a lathe is not designed for friction welding.

This was a while ago but I recently made one of these that runs smoothly and fast and if you were to make one again it seems that the timing of when the valve opens is slightly off. And the exhaust or where the air comes into the cylinder isn't mandatory. But I enjoyed this engine. Good work!

Holding with tailstock not so good cus tailstock have play, also it need a good forse in order for metal to metal bond, easy 1or 2 tons of force on big pcs.

If you had heated up the metals before you tryed this would help you get the bonding you was wishing for

Holy lack of safety... wrenches left on machine, long loose fitting sleeves, my guess is the oil has a low flash point and will light up real easily.

Great video! What year is this? I'm going to try it with my manual 1999 Saturn SL1, swapping out the engine with one from a manual 1999 Saturn SL2, do you think it will work? Will it be a swap and go?
@jirehhundeby5499
@jirehhundeby5499 8 жыл бұрын
+Ben Spragge the engine came out of a 1995/1996 sw1 auto, and the engine is going into a my 1995 sl1. with your swap every thing should go fine but it has been a while since I did the swap. If it where me I would go on the forms and read about what other people have done.

im planning on doing this same swap for my 1994 sl1 manual tranny and I was wondering what was the total cost of this? were many modifications needed?
@jirehhundeby5499
@jirehhundeby5499 8 жыл бұрын
+freeman gordon If you get a newer engine I believe 1996 and up one of the temp sensor will be missing and the total cost of the swap was the engine $200 from the junk yard and lots of time.
