This is a very useful video, I was having a hard time finding a clear checklist of what a model needs to be compatible with printing. The one step I didn't 100% understand the intention of was the remeshing. Is that step only for correcting inverted normals, or does it serve another purpose?
@MWSculpts2 ай бұрын
That's great 😃. So the remeshing does flip the normals but I also use it to connect objects together. So if you ctrl+j your objects together then remesh to a really high density this will give you one manifold object ready for print. Rather than several intersecting objects which some slicers don't like. At least that used to be the case!
@kathleenl99572 ай бұрын
@@MWSculpts Great, that was one thing I was unsure about whether or not it would affect a print, but it sounds like it depends on the software and more are able to handle intersecting now?
@MWSculpts2 ай бұрын
Yeah I recon so, I think a lot of the slicers for resin printing mainly are OK with it but perhaps some of the FDM ones not so much. I need to do some research on this as it would save time prepping models

When I add another cube with the size of 2m by 2m it has some shading and render issues in the viewport. When working with the mm scale is it now impossible to work with objects that are multiple meters big?
@MWSculpts2 ай бұрын
Yes I think when there is such a difference in size you will get such issues. Is there a reason why you need to work in both sizes together? You could try tweaking the viewport camera there are setting for start and end clipping which could help
@moritzpollich82522 ай бұрын
@@MWSculpts I have to work in mm because I want to export my models as an stl for 3d printing. If I work in meters the scaling will be completely off. And when I design something bigger like a helmet from something like Star Wars or something even bigger it’s gonna start having these issues. I heard that I could work in meters but when I export as an stl I can just multiply the scale and it should work.

Yes in that case I agree working in meters will be better 🙂

First off, this video is so awesome! Thank you! I am having trouble applying the forearm mesh to the other side like you show with the biceps. When I try to link the object data it causes the object to flip. is that normal? And if so what is the best way to rotate it back into place without messing up the hand location? Again, thanks so much! These videos are by far the best I have found, you teach us more than how to make a donut!😂
@MWSculpts3 ай бұрын
Hey sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this and I'm glad you're enjoyingthe videos :). You could try applying the scale on your object (ctrl+a) then try linking up again. If you want to keep the hand in position you will need to unparent it before messing with the forearm and then parent back up once done, let me know how you get on.

If it's not working for you, I might have figured out why. If you installed, did your hotkeys, then you realized you need to enable the addon, you goofed. You need to delete the hotkeys, enable the addon, then make sure the autofill gives you the right commands. At least I think that's how I fixed it. Also don't mess up mw vs wm.

@@MWSculpts I've applied all transformations that were made in object mode. It seems like the 3D Printing tools simply doesn't like anything I've made in sculpting mode, so I wonder if I've accidentally messed something up while sculpting, because I'm getting tons of zero faces and intersecting faces. Hopefully I get it sorted soon because it's my first miniature, and I don't have my own printer so I wanna make sure everything is great before I pay someone to print it for me 🎉

How do you make your viewport "focus" on only one part in sculpt mode?
@MWSculpts4 ай бұрын

I used a Wacom Cintiq 22HD and Wacom One Pen Display for years but they never quite gave me the same feeling as drawing with pencil and paper, which is my background. I kept trying to use them but it just felt awkward... However drawing on a normal tablet also felt so incredibly awkward for me. But then I purchased a Tab S7 and started to use that, eventually plugging it into my PC, drawing on it but looking at my monitor.. After a few hours it's like a switch in my head sort of turned on and all of a sudden it felt natural to draw like that. The next day I bit the bullet and I purchased an Intuos Pro Medium and instantly adjusted to using it. It feels SO much nicer! It just feels more natural and liberating not having to constantly almost look through my hand. My accuracy, painting and drawing has improved ten-fold. I'm never going back to a pen display now. I'm also left handed so I have the same setup as you! 😂😂

Hey, Very new to blender here ,started this week. What is going on at 3:52 forward? you seem to be in both edit, and sculpt mode at the same time, and you are able to very quickly move between objects, as well as scale them in sculpt mode (?). Any ideas where to go to be able to learn these functions, because I for sure fell of the wagon here 😅

Hey good to hear your giving it a go 🙂. So there is a shortcut (alt+q) by default which lets you switch between objects you have your cursor over. Then while in sculpt mode you should be able to hit the s key to scale, if this doesn't work check the tool menu (t) and you will find the scale brush here in sculpt mode

I always have to scroll through the menu and its clunky for the workflow but I don't see any hotkeys listed anywhere for them in sculpt.
