Great tutorial as usual, Rob. An observation/question, however. On my OM1, I use the AEL button to provide a switch between matrix and spot metering. However, when AEL is set to spot, with the default metering mode being matrix, the metering point does not follow the focus point but stays locked in the centre. If you have the default metering set to spot, then the metering mode does indeed follow the focus point as in your video. Also, the spot follow function only works for the single dot focus point and for no other fixed or custom focus point settings (like the small 4 dot, or even a single dot in custom for example). Do you see this on the OM1? The way I get a usable metering switch function (with spot following focus), is therefore to have the default set to single dot spot, and the AEL button set to matrix.

I bought an OM-1 for $AUD1,450 (about $USD850) with a 12-month warranty from a very good dealer. When it arrived, it was like a lightly used demo model. Apart from the camera, everything else in the box was still wrapped in plastic. Absolutely beautiful camera.

Thank you so much for All the Exploration Videos. They are so valuable. I am searching for a possibility tu use the "ring-switch" around the AEL-Button to switch between AF and MF. Since the OM 20mm F1.4 does not have a Focus-Clutch, I wanted to be Able to switch otherwise and not Lösung a Button. I was wondering wether the mentioned Modes 1 and 3 (Back Button Focus can be used as MF if you Donut press the AEL-Button) could be set to the "Ring-Switch" around the AEL-Button. In this case I would not Lose apotheke Fn-Button.

I learned a lot from your videos about using Olympus cameras, thank you very much! My main cameras are Panasonics but in my youth I shot with an OM10 which I still have on display. Must be some kind of Olympus virus but after getting a used E-PL8 there’s now a used E-M5 III on its way to me 😊. Looking forward to going through all your videos for this camera again.

Hello from Finland! Great video, goes with the latest OM-5 also. I'm using the back button focus by setting AEL/AFL button to mode 3, and the "Half way AF" setting to 'Inoperative'. This way I can focus anywhere, then get the spot metering from anywhere and lock it by half pressing the shutter button, and finally compose and take the image by pressing all the way down. I wish happy new year to everyone!

Rob I checked the 70-200 VR F4 lens with the TC 1.7 .......you mentioned F10 with TC 1.7 , this is not correct the F stop wide open with TC 1.7 is F6.7 which is really cool to me with having 510mm with a lens that is super light set up on my Z50ii ....... thanks I just wanted to let you know what I found . Happy New Year

Does it shoot astrophotography good?
@RobTrekКүн бұрын
I don't think the 40mm focal length is ideal for astrophotography. Usually you use a much wider lens for wide field astro and super telephotos for deep sky. That said, this lens has some smearing and coma at f/2.5. Stopping down to f/5.6 helps, but then that would not let enough light in. So I'd say skip this for astro.

@RobTrek I found mieke f1.5 50 mm as well . Around same price this should work do you think
@stevegiles9080Күн бұрын
@RobTrek I'm also saving for the f4 to 8 28 mm to 44 nikon full frame lens too you think that would do good. I know it's not a f1.8

Happy New Year Rob! I'm still on my pen F... testing the 7.5 Laowa which I recommend even tho its manual. Turning the EXP COMP dial the image grows lighter of darker on the back of camera.... but the actual image produced is not affected by whatever I set the Exp Comp to ... just the back screen. Whats going on ... how do I gwt the exp comp to change the imager produced? Thanks

I would need to duplicate the problem. Can you email me two raw pictures with different exposure comp settings? rob at robtrek dot com.

The word: CLIP/CLIP....... Around time: 45:29 Where work is being done up in the upper left corner. Photo with river/house. What does that word (Clip/click) MEAN Rob says?
@RobTrek3 күн бұрын
I was referring to the highlights in the clouds. When they get too bright, all color and detail is lost. It's called clipping. If that happens in the original image file straight out of camera, then there is no way to recover color or detail. If it happens because you pushed the brightness in editing, you just need pull back. The same is true when talking about shadows. In this case, the pixels are completely black.

Great review, love this little flash for my film cameras and EDC when I'm going light. But that Olympus flash is amazing. The articulating head is money. One of the best decisions for Olympus to include in their camera kits. So much better than a built in flash.

I love this review. I sold my 12-100mm pro lens and bought a used 14-150mm lens. The pro lens is sharper but due to its weight, I found myself leaving it home and just using my prime lenses. What good is a lens if it stays at home right? I had the 40-150mm lens and found the images to be lacking overall. For me the 14-150mm will be a walkabout lens during the day and my primes for nighttime, indoors and also street photography.
