So satisfying to hear you call out all the trends I've been sick to death of for at least 3 years. The issue seems to be people following trends more than letting the architecture and setting of their home lead their approach to design. You should have seen the houses on "The Block" this year (Australia's biggest home reno show), they were so guilty of all of these trends and in buildings that have a completely different exterior design language (harsh, angular) to what they were trying to achieve inside (organic, curved).

I think finding the right job and having the best systems in place for a person with adhd can make a world of difference. I saw this video by a prof who used to teach a course on time management and he said it's about freeing up time for what you want to do by being aware of how you work and move through the world. I was comparing my decor non stop with online designers, I couldn't design exactly like them because their decor was so expensive. The other downside is, my home didn't look really like us, it was just "generic" from online copy-cat like. It's your home, it doesn't have to look like a designer showroom! Growing up my home was cluttered and barely functional with cheap ugly secondhand stuff. My parents particularly my father didn’t like spending money to the detriment of our health. So having a balance is key especially investing where you spend the most time ie. bed, bedding, mattress and couch. I don’t care what others think as I’m the one who lives in my space and I have a life with a child in a small space so it has to work.

Athletically pleasing used to be term that was used. But it didn’t need to be a specific thing we needed to have. Just a way things were curated. I love watching interior designers home tours. My idea is decorate the walls, have minimal flat surfaces, and get nice decorative things you use like shower curtains and trash cans. All of my bathroom/ bedroom trash cans are baskets I’ve collected over 22 years. Before getting them I had Dollar Tree garbage cans. My garbage cans is a cheep close top from Walmart. Late in life adhd diagnosis here too. My therapist says to focus on the benefits, rather than the deficits. We tend to be creative, friendly and prone to problem solving. We get burnt out because we put a lot of energy into things we're passionate about, which can distract from obligations. We chase stimulus, but we can create systems to harness our energy and focus. It might sound counterintuitive, but my life got easier without lists and being overly planned. I work in education and set up the learning management systems to maintain the front facing appearance of being organized and just check in as needed. I am aware of how to best make use of my time. Like, I mark assignments first thing without really thinking about it, just to clear the pile that might weigh heavily on my mind. I use scheduled emails to deal with administrative tasks. My memory has improved as I find ways to improve confidence and reduce stress. I wonder if it has to do with traumatic brain fog.

Most of my friends also have adhd and think it's ridiculous that I operate the way I do, but I still have systems in place. Perhaps it wouldn't work for everyone, but I think it helped me because I had severe anxiety due to low self-esteem/confidence. I love this video! I would say, I lived without curtains my first year out of college, I hung curtains just to add some interest in a boring white bedroom. Hanging curtains at the windows instantly made the room feel more cozy. Ever since I have hung curtains, for light blocking and aesthetics. (Except, I’ve lived in my current place 7 years now and still don’t have curtains there. Usually, when I moved into a space, I a design would “come to me;” not this place. I was dried up. Even seven years later, I’m struggling with a design.

@@amyheckathorn7172 curtains really can make a huge difference in how cozy and soft a room feels! I feel like I never know how long I’m going to stay in an apartment, so I never bother…except I’m going on 4 years in this apartment but now it feels too late 😅 7 years is a long time! Maybe other things have been priority in your life lately which is fine too 🫶

Yes definitly I feel so ashamed when people apologies for the mess when their appartement is in the same state my appartement is when he is clean. I think they will collapse if they say my version of "messy appartement". 😢

@@madda5133 I relate to this! I didn’t even show you guys some of the worst parts (aka my bathroom), because I didn’t want to gross people out. 👀 So I’m right there with you! It’s ok though, we’re doing the best we can.❤️

Love this video! Also, you might want to get your landlord to address that kitchen faucet slow leak.
