Wow, it was really hopping in the 70s and early 80s when I was growing up. Lots of suburbs nearby, home to DuPont workers. Wed ride our bikes there and hang out. Got chewed out in Radio Shack for going through in packs and not buying anything. Hoped for free sesame seed snacks at GNC. Almart was the anchor where Sears was. The record store you’d buy single 45s was Sam Goody, I think. Woolworths had a pet store (and did a good business in the Pet Rock fad). Definitely the Gap, DRx pets, a guy playing an organ at the music store, SoacePort for video games. And Mr Larry’s Hair Crimpers in the Jordache Jeans era.

You already know real estate goons are salivating at nabbing up that lot and putting up condos. Continuing a disgusting trend. Years from now Jersey boardwalks will be boring like California and Virginia Beach boardwalks.

One of these types of Arcades opened up at the Galleria Mall in Johnstown, PA earlier this year. Called Super Player Arcade. Not my cup of tea. But it seems to be doing alright business wise..

I use to go to Party City for Halloween costumes but then it just got worse and worse every year so maybe 2 years ago, I just stopped going there and only go to Spirit. My mom always favored Party Fair in Freehold, NJ for birthday goodies which still DOES exist!

Hi Ray. I have to be brutally honest and say I've never been to Party City or any of the Spirit Stores. As a kid, we never had "goodie bags" when we were attending someone's birthday party. I grew up in Idaho, and for the life of me, I think we only got gifts for our birthdays. I remember the loose candy as being called "penny candy." All these things that I remember as a child growing up are all but a fond memory. I'm happy that I finally got to see inside of this store. Thank you Ray for sharing and enjoy your evening. BTW I'll be home for New Year's. I haven't been to a New Years Eve party in quite sometime. You my friend please have a wonderful New Year🍾🥂🎆🎇🎉🎊

Actually I am not surprised that Party City is closing its doors. That place has not been too busy or years. I think it only was busy was during the Holidays and especially with Halloween with the costumes. Also Yes, I think Spirit Halloween definitely had something to do with it. I was in that store a few times but I know twice to get a Halloween Costume for a party.

I don't see how it can survive as a year round business when it's so Holiday focused, plus competing with every other retailer doing holiday stuff

My friend worked for them and the way they were treating their employees the past few months was awful, sudden layoffs and basically not telling any of them what was going down. My friend heard from Reddit that bankruptcy was declared before hearing from their actual job :\ I did grow up going to Party City every halloween for costumes and it was always fun. Shame they're going out of business I feel bad for all the other employees that were screwed over by the higher ups

Does it not still make sense to revive and keep malls going, the internet is ok, Malls are amazing!
@danc11976 күн бұрын
This should be at a new strip mall so people on the street can see it. Indoor malls are losing business so investing in a space could be costly. Where I came from they would have both in mall arcades as well as outside stand alone arcades. The outside ones were always much busier. And they were open much earlier and closed several hours after the mall would close. So you could walk out of the movie theatre late at night and get your game on by walking next door.
@JaimeThorne-ex3gx6 күн бұрын
There was a mall Santa and Easter bunny. The stage in there was basically used for that sort of photo op back in the day.
@JaimeThorne-ex3gx6 күн бұрын
Around 8 minutes, that used to be a nail salon. You also got bonton, aunt Annie’s, bath and bodyworka. There used to be an arcade near Dunham sports back in the 90’s and I think JC Pennys was where Dunham is now.
