ANZAC Day - Lest We Forget. Warrant Officer Robert George Roberts. No.5003 Our father joined the Royal Australian Air Force on 23rd October 1939. He enlisted at Laverton, and was a 'Permanent ', Reservist Class 'E' 1-5. He married our mother Nancy on 30th November 1940, and was posted to Darwin on 1st March 1941, leaving by sea on the HMAS Maroona from Melbourne @ 5 pm on the 4th March 1941. The first air raid commenced at 9:58 am on the 19th February 1942, heavy attacks on shipping, the town and aerodrome by 188 Japanese aircraft causing extensive damage and chaos. Our father was injured in this raid, however, after recovering from unconsciousness, he resumed his duty. He was then relocated with others to Batchelor. He was discharged after 6 years service, on 20th December 1945.

I stumbled across this totally by accident when I was looking for something else. Thoroughly enjoyed it, some truly inspirational people who should be so proud of themselves. I love country towns, the peacefulness, the people, the scenery, the list goes on. Unfortunately it’s to hot 🥵 for me in summer. Thank you for the great show.

Wonderful episode!👍 I wonder what footage you used in the scenes where Peter is shown outside in what appears to be at his house in California?

One day I will visit Australia. After all, the folks in this video are like many of my friends; horse people who are the salt of the earth.

I have just discovered Back Roads in ABC on my phone and absolutely love it. I’ve told a few friends, who’d never heard of it who said they are definitely going to watch it - Brilliant series, I’m still learning so much about my country my great grandparents emigrated to from Britain. Excellent Series ❤️✔️
