2nd time I’ve watched this episode. I love Back Roads. I’ve learned more about my own country, some of which I never knew watching the series.

ANZAC Day - Lest We Forget. Warrant Officer Robert George Roberts. No.5003 Our father joined the Royal Australian Air Force on 23rd October 1939. He enlisted at Laverton, and was a 'Permanent ', Reservist Class 'E' 1-5. He married our mother Nancy on 30th November 1940, and was posted to Darwin on 1st March 1941, leaving by sea on the HMAS Maroona from Melbourne @ 5 pm on the 4th March 1941. The first air raid commenced at 9:58 am on the 19th February 1942, heavy attacks on shipping, the town and aerodrome by 188 Japanese aircraft causing extensive damage and chaos. Our father was injured in this raid, however, after recovering from unconsciousness, he resumed his duty. He was then relocated with others to Batchelor. He was discharged after 6 years service, on 20th December 1945.

The news didn't report the attack on Darwin or downplayed it.
